The Love Lies & Life Lessons Podcast
🚨 TRIGGER WARNING: This episode contains graphic discussions of domestic violence (female perpetrator), vehicular homicide, intentional high-speed crash, death, and manipulation of law enforcement. Listener discretion is strongly advised. 🔥 What happens when the narrative flips — and the abuser is a woman? In this extended, emotionally devastating episode of Love, Lies and Life Lessons, we examine the shocking case of Mackenzie Shirilla — the 17-year-old who intentionally crashed her car at nearly 100 mph, killing her boyfriend Dominic Russo (20) and their friend Davion Flanagan (19). On July 31, 2022, in Strongsville, Ohio, surveillance footage captured a car making a controlled turn, then accelerating deliberately for half a mile before slamming into a brick building. The black box data was damning: accelerator fully pressed for 5 seconds, brake never touched, and the gear shifted from drive to neutral and back just seconds before impact. The judge called her "literal hell on wheels." She was convicted of murder and sentenced to 15 years to life. 🎬 But then came the Netflix documentary "The Crash" — and a family's campaign to rewrite history. In this episode, we expose: 🔸 The coded Pig Latin conversations between Mackenzie and her mother to deceive police 🔸 The medical excuse (POTS) that the black box data completely disproved 🔸 The prior threats — she had allegedly threatened to crash the car with Dominic inside multiple times before 🔸 The lack of remorse — TikTok dances and Halloween costumes after the deaths 🔸 The father's "Boom" shirt and his defense of her drug use 🔸 The Netflix documentary's omissions — what they didn't show you 💔 But this episode is about more than a crash. It's about: ✔️ The uncomfortable truth — sometimes women are perpetrators and men are victims ✔️ The one-in-three men who experience intimate partner violence — and suffer in silence ✔️ Dominic Russo's failed attempts to leave — and the price he paid for trying ✔️ Davion Flanagan — an innocent passenger who never should have been in that car ✔️ Why we must believe all victims — regardless of gender 📢 If you are a man in an abusive relationship, help exists.
