The Trade Deficit is Fake News and a Quick List of Real Trade News

Hi everybody Thursday, 1 August this week I want to do a little bit of a deep dive into the trade deficit why I think it's a distorted number and how customs valuation will help unlock the secrets to understanding it. First let's do a bit of Roundup of trade news: (1) China US trade negotiations in Shanghai what may come out of it (2) No Deal brexit? what does that mean? BONUS: What to Expect from US-China Trade Negotiations in Shanghai

I won’t normally release so many episodes so quickly, but with negotiations set to re-start tomorrow and lots of confusion remaining, I thought I’d add some background to help in understanding the issues. As the US trade negotiators arrive in Shanghai for the re-start of negotiations, do we expect a positive outcome or an eminent resolution? NOPE! In this episode, we review the status of the trade dispute between the US and China, what the outstanding issues are, what has China attempted to do to resolve its end, and whether there is any common ground between the parties to form a base for an agreement. We will examine the new foreign investment law, the draft commercial encryption law, and the draft export control law from China and how they may affect the outstanding issues in the trade war.

Hong Kong Protests and the US-China Trade War

In this, my first podcast episode, I try explain the connection between the Hong Kong protests and the US-China trade war.
