In this highly informative, inspiring, and educative interview, Omolola Omotoso; a Registered Nurse and a Practice Education Facilitator with one of the NHS Trust in West Midlands, UK shares deep insights on how to work in the UK as a qualified nurse especially if you are coming from outside the UK. In Nigeria, Lola was a lecturer in philosophy at the Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife and as an education link for students, Lola helped new starters settle in. When she trained as a nurse in 2010 she always knew she wanted to have a career in education and training. Lola says her proudest achievement is changing career to retrain as a nurse. On seeing the post advertised at the Trust, a friend and colleague encouraged her to apply, saying it would be perfect for her. She got the job and loves what she does. Lola is responsible for the training and development of the Healthcare Assistants (HCAs) and says she feels like she’s only just begun, with greater feats to accomplish. She runs induction and training and develops programmes to support staff learning and development. She often helps staff in clinical areas, offering pastoral support, especially during the pandemic. Lola is married with three daughters and lives in Wolverhampton, UK. She’s very creative and in her spare time loves to sing and to make her own beauty products.
