The Meta Business Show
Garry L. McFadden is the 45th and first black Sheriff elected in Mecklenburg County. He is proud to be considered the most forward thinking and progressive Sheriff of Mecklenburg County. Sheriff McFadden has dedicated nearly 40 years to law enforcement. It is his vision for the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s office to be a nationally recognized public safety organization dedicated to deliberate service to our community. Three notable initiatives made by Sheriff McFadden are: Renaming the Mecklenburg County Jail to the Mecklenburg County Detention Center and referring to the men and women who are housed inside the facility as residents not inmates. Ending ICE’s 287(g) program, a controversial process the Sheriff believes erodes trust with the community. And lastly, implementing North Carolina’s first Behavioral Health Unit inside a jail or detention facility. The male and female behavioral health units were created to improve mental health treatment for residents as well as teach positive reinforcements and healthy coping skills. Sheriff McFadden has been nationally recognized by President Barack Obama for his involvement and development of the phenomenal community program known as “Cops and Barbers.” If you’re ever looking for Sheriff McFadden look no further than the community. That is where you will find him grilling for the neighborhood, having life-saving conversations with our youth, and influencing change by being “The Difference.”
