Descripción

At a local coffee shop, Mel Green, a CBC Journalist, interviewed me about my past years process of leaving the yoga industry for her research on burnout in the service/therapy professions. I talk openly, for the first time, the causes of burnout and the turmoil that comes from not having a sense of purpose, a job becoming routine, and what I did to try to dig myself out of this hole. I share the many ways in which I was disillusioned and how it made it difficult to leave my job as a teacher, and all of the fears that came with doing it. I give my insights, post-teaching, of what I learned about myself and why burnout/resentment/apathy in a job exists.

Carol Hortan and Annie Okerlin - Peace after War: Yoga, Veterns and PTSD

Carol Horton, Ph.D., is a writer, educator, and activist working at the intersection of mindful yoga, social science, and social justice. Carol is also the Vice President of the Yoga Service Council, an Advisor to the Yoga and Body Image Coalition, and a co-founder of Chicago’s Socially Engaged Yoga Network (SEYN). Annie Okerlin is the founder of Yogani Studios and the Exalted Warrior Foundation - an adaptive yoga instruction program that is designed for wounded warriors in military and veterans hospital facilities nationwide. In this podcast, they discuss their work together on a book called the "Best Practices for Yoga with Veterans," and how their work has translated into the real world, helping war veterans experience physical, psychological, and emotional health and well-being through the practice of yoga and mindfulness.
