Spoiler-free until 11:00 In these troubling times, it is always nice to watch a depressing movie. The Father is a movie about a guy with dementia, from the point of view of the guy with dementia. That is a loaded concept, one with a lot of potential, but potential is a two way street. The potential to make something great comes with the potential to screw the pooch hard. This was the mentality of the filmmakers behind Chaos Walking, who somehow created a movie so unbelievably bad that not even Lionsgate would release it. Of course, it's been a long time since 2017 (the original slated release) and there were $15 million in reshoots, so I say completely discrediting the movie due to it's past may be unfair. There's a lot in that sentence that may strike fear into the hearts of Tom and Jerry fans. Firstly, the 1992 movie was... iffy... to say the least, and cartoons getting the CG treatment usually ends in a dumpster fire. But here at The Movie Hoppers, we know no bias. Sure everything is stacked against the old cat and mouse, and the chances of it being acceptable is slim to none, but you know, there's a chance.
