Stop Overthinking in 60 Seconds Most people think overthinking is about making better decisions. It’s not. Overthinking is often your brain trying to protect you from uncertainty—but protection can become paralysis. Here’s a simple exercise I use with leaders and clients. Step 1: Name the decision. You can’t solve what you won’t define. Step 2: Ask yourself, “What do I already know?” Separate facts from fear. Step 3: Ask yourself “Why?” seven times. Each answer peels back another layer until you uncover what’s really driving the hesitation. More often than not, the problem isn’t the decision. It’s the fear underneath it: Fear of failure. Fear of disappointing others. Fear of making the wrong choice. Step 4: Pray. “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God…” — James 1:5 (KJV) Step 5: Take one faithful step. You don’t need complete certainty before you move. You need enough faith to take the next step. Here’s what I’ve learned after decades in healthcare and years of executive coaching: The cost of overthinking isn’t just lost time. It’s delayed purpose, missed opportunities, and unnecessary mental exhaustion. Your next breakthrough may not require more information. It may require more obedience. Clarity is often God’s reward for movement—not a prerequisite for it. If you’re ready to strengthen your mindset, reduce decision fatigue, and lead with greater clarity and confidence, join me for my FREE ReInvention Wellness™ Masterclass.
