Descripción

How much do you really know about the history of institutions and asylums? In this episode Jamie and Sarah Lowe uncover the often-overlooked story of how people who were seen as ‘different’ have been treated through time; a history marked by fear, ignorance, segregation and avoidance. They explore why it’s so important for social workers today to lead with sensitivity, understanding, respect, kindness, and humanity when supporting all the people we work with, especially those who have experienced institutionalisation, social exclusion or stigma.

Episode 5 - Interview with HHJ Perusko; designated Family Judge for MK and FDAC lead judge founding Bedfordshire/MK FDAC Courts

This episode sees ParentAssess speaking to HHJ Perusko; designated Family Judge for Milton Keynes and FDAC lead judge founding Bedfordshire and Milton Keynes FDAC Courts. We talk about why he thinks FDAC has the successful outcomes for families that, it does; with striking similarities to the social work values we hold important including those at ParentAssess; use of simple language, keeping things simple and helping parents to understand and to trust before change can happen and keeping children’s experiences central including their relationship with their parents. It was both a fascinating, motivating and meaningful conversation, which we were very proud to host. A huge thank you to Judge Perusko for his time to do this. He also mentioned outside of the Podcast recording that recently TV cameras had been filming at FDAC and there will be some national TV coverage soon; we will happily share more once we know when! Judge Perusko also made reference to the FDAC reports and some relevant caselaw; both of which are attached to the show notes (and can be used alongside this podcast for your social worker CPD renewal if needed) the case law Judgement from Judge Perusko offers reflection about the court process and giving parents information about their family proceedings outcomes in a way both they (and later children) can read and understand.
