The South African Bread Riot With Buhle Mtsweni
TPC supporter Buhle Mtsweni joins us to discuss the articles written by Siyabonga Hadebe that provide the bedrock for this episode. We talk about the ANC and the bread riots that brought the army to Gauteng and Kwa Zulu Natal. The detailed articles outline and contextualise the problems that lead to the riot. The rotten heart and dysfunction of the ANC. The demonisation and control of black people, their culture, beliefs and even their hair. The economic system that sytematically breeds hunger, hopelessness and joblessness. The hypocrisy of South Africa's judicial system which is weak against crooks who steal millions but is potent and flexible when confronting folks who don't produce a proof of purchase for food, cheap clothes and appliances.
Episode 9: Ke Mang John Law?
We will be talking about John Law the first financial engineer, the gambler who changed the world. This topic was inspired by a youtube video created by Patrick Boyle on Finance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5uKP... [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5uKPUPQSyQ&t=0s] His detailed video outlines the history of John Law and the story of the Mississippi bubble. I came across the channel when I was digging for information about the Gamestop saga, the presentation, informative content and dry humour had me trawling through his previous work for more goodies. We will be doing an epistemicide exercise as prescribed by Dr Mvulane Moloi to get a feel for the Good the Bad and Ugly of this system we are living with by reflecting on where it all began and looking at the mastermind who put it together. In essence, we will go back to the start of the story to interrogate it. Discussing the system that John Law put together whose ideas and have spread globally and play a massive role in how finance and geopolitics work today.
Episode 8: Know Thyself. Decolonising Knowledge With Dr Tshepo Mvulane Moloi.
This is the second half of the discussion on decolonising knowledge with Dr Tshepo Mvulane Moloi. Aiming to unpick the knot we begin at architecture, we poke the notion of “indigenous knowledge”, dive into some of the lore of the ancestral realm and land on art. The importance of knowing our past the people involved and their motivations is stamped all over this episode.
