The Perfect Athlete Devotional Intro
GAME 66 – Work For God, Not People One of the most dangerous motivations for athletes is applause. When athletes work for attention, praise, or recognition, their effort becomes inconsistent. They work hard when people are watching and relax when nobody is. But Colossians 3:22–23 teaches something deeper: “Whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.” This principle changes everything. When athletes work for people: • they burn out quickly • they chase validation • they fear criticism • they lose motivation when praise disappears But when athletes work for God: • their effort becomes consistent • their discipline becomes worship • their preparation becomes purpose • their training becomes stewardship This devotional challenges athletes to shift their motivation from people’s approval to God’s honor. Because when you work for God, your standards stay high whether anyone is watching or not. Your effort becomes an offering. Your discipline becomes devotion. Your preparation becomes worship.
