How to Make the Myth of Work/Life Balance a Reality

In this competitive world where image, income and influence are the most prized possessions of so many, it seems as though "having a life" has almost gone out of style. Even entrepreneurs (who you would assume became such in order to control their time) drive themselves to the point of virtual exhaustion. You hear tons of successful coaches, consultants and podcasters tout the value of "grinding" to get ahead. I want to suggest that, for most of us, that's neither healthy nor even doable long term. But that's not to say that work and life cannot both be given their time to shine. There are seasons where work must take precedence over leisure activities and hobbies. But there are also seasons where leisure and hobbies ... family, friends, etc ... needs to be prioritized over giving a presentation its 100th "look over" before a meeting. Life is NUTS sometimes. Like when you are trying to sell your house and do your job ... and coach and podcast ... And somehow, in the cleaning and moving and straightening you lose the things that are important because you become fixated on the goal. But goals are meaningless if we sacrifice ourselves and those we love to the end game. It's really easy to say "But I have to ... " and think that ignoring our own needs and those of others is okay. It may be, for a short time. But in the end, you have nothing if you don't have your own health and loving relationships around you. Not to mention your podcasting mic lol.
