The Spiritual Language Teacher Podcast with Anne-Sophie Roar
In this very special edition of The Spiritual Language Teacher Podcast, created specifically for world language teachers, Anne‑Sophie explores how gratitude builds the stamina of the nervous system, the root of sovereignty, inviting us into a state where the more we receive grace, the more we can offer gratitude. Drawing on David R. Hawkins’ map of consciousness and her own classroom experience, she reveals the secret of gratitude as a portal into the now and into the spiral of self‑love. The episode culminates with a simple yet radical breath‑based gratitude ritual that has transformed her French pre‑K to 3rd‑grade classes energetically and linguistically, and that can be adapted to any target language, any age, and any teaching context. She illuminates how this “bridge practice” supports second language acquisition through Stephen Krashen’s insights while catalyzing inner energetic transformation, both quietly magical and profoundly empowering. The full script of the gratitude practice in English and in French are included for easy implementation in any World Language classroom. If you like this episode, like and subscribe. So thank you, Merci, Ta, Spa-see-buh, Koszonom, Sadhu and gracias. And as always remember to breathe. Place your hands over your heart. Close your eyes if that feels safe. Take a deep breath in. Hold it gently at the top for three seconds: one, two, three. Exhale all the air out. Rest at the bottom: one, two, three. Repeat that breath: breathe in, hold it at the top, one, two, three Breathe out, rest at the bottom, one, two, three. Say, “I have gratitude for myself and for my nervous system.” And then, “I have gratitude for something else.” Everyone silently thinks of their gratitude. After a few seconds, you say: open your eyes. Then invite your students to whisper their gratitude into their hand. Then ask them to throw it toward what is on the screen. Then ask, “Who wants to share their gratitude?”
