Descripción

These weeks are seemingly flying by already. We are excited to start this series in our podcast, Where is the Balance, where you get to listen to students that are constantly giving back, organizing and even running businesses. We know life as a college student is hectic and during a pandemic...even more!  On this episode, we are shining a light on Antoinette Watkins. You met Antoinette during our Fear vs Faith episodes, but what you didn't know is her amazing organization. Antoinette is the founder of The Diabaddie Organization, Inc. and a junior studying nutrition and dietetics with the Robert Stempel College of Public Health & Social Work at Florida International University. Antoinette was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) in 2006. She founded the Diabaddie Organization, Inc. to provide the support that young adults, need while facing the realities of living with diabetes. Their mission is to educate, expand the representation of individuals living with diabetes, promote health, connect with others, and inspire beauty through diversity. Additionally, they are committed to providing scholarships for children with T1D  to attend Diabetes Camps, so that they acquire the knowledge and resources necessary to self-manage their disease. Fear vs. Faith Pt. 2

Whatever you believe, whoever you believe in, at some point your faith and spirituality will be put to the test in college. I sat down with my friends to discuss what it means to us to have faith in college. Sometimes it may seem like a struggle to maintain but we do because of our faith. I hope this episode helps you. How are you doing during this COVID-19 quarantine? Check in with me. Make sure to stay connected by reaching out via my website or even hitting me up on social media. We all need a little distraction with what's going on in the world. Be sure to go outside, read a book, meditate, dance, workout or whatever you need to help you get through. A little background on my friends: Antoinette Watkins is a sophomore at FIU majoring in Communications and Social Media E-Marketing Analytics. In August of 2019, she created Diabaddie, Antoinette was diagnosed with Type1 Diabetes, at the age of six, on July 24, 2006. Even as a college student, she still attends diabetes camp every year, now as an alumni camper, with hopes of significantly impacting lives and being a healthy role model for other young diabetics. Kyla Messam is a sophomore at FIU majoring in Construction Management. Kyla plans on finishing her degree and taking over the family business, Messam Construction. She is active within the FIU chapters of the Black Student Union, National Council of Negro Women, and National Society of Black Engineers. I launched a website! YES. Here's another way to keep up with me. Just type in ArtriceLanae.com into your web browser and join in on the fun. Stay connected by signing up for my newsletter (I promise I won't spam you).
