Every year, at the end of May, the major television networks (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, and the CW) meet with advertisers and the press to announce their upcoming cancellations and parade their replacement lineups. Advertisers then have an opportunity to buy ad time upfront. Essentially, networks escort their new pilots before a group of marketers and try to seduce them with promises of popularity.
