Descripción

On a Sunday in 1865 at Monument Street Methodist Church in Baltimore, a choir member, Mrs. Hall, was so moved by a sermon on the crucifixion that she wrote a hymn in the margin of her hymnal. Her words were later paired perfectly with a melody by their church organist John Grape, creating the classic hymn "Jesus Paid It All." Christ paid the full penalty for sin and that fact calls believers to grateful surrender. This account reminds us that ordinary, surrendered lives can leave an extraordinary legacy of faith.

episode Abide With Me: The Dying Pastor's Final Prayer artwork

Abide With Me: The Dying Pastor's Final Prayer

On his deathbed, pastor Henry Francis Lyte wrote the hymn "Abide with Me," a simple prayer for Christ's presence as life’s shadows fell. The hymn, born from his final sermon and struggles with illness, has comforted generations in churches, hospitals, and at funerals. This episode tells Light's story — his faithful ministry, his last sermon, and the enduring message that when earthly strength fails, Christ's presence remains enough. Hymn Lyrics: Abide With Me" 1. Abide with me: fast falls the eventide; the darkness deepens; Lord, with me abide. When other helpers fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, O abide with me. 2. Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day; earth's joys grow dim, its glories pass away. Change and decay in all around I see. O thou who changest not, abide with me. 3. I need thy presence every passing hour. What but thy grace can foil the tempter's power? Who like thyself my guide and strength can be? Through cloud and sunshine, O abide with me. 4. I fear no foe with thee at hand to bless, ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness. Where is death's sting? Where, grave, thy victory? I triumph still, if thou abide with me. 5. Hold thou thy cross before my closing eyes. Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies. Heaven's morning breaks and earth's vain shadows flee; in life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.

episode Saved by Grace: The Hymn of Crosby and Moody artwork

Saved by Grace: The Hymn of Crosby and Moody

This episode tells the true story behind Fanny Crosby’s hymn "Saved by Grace" — how a blind hymn writer, encouraged by Moody and others, found a once private, encouraging poem became a beloved hymn after being shared at a conference and set to music. Now the profound truth of that timeless hymn has wafted across continents, reminding us that we are saved only by His grace.  HYMN LYRICS: Saved By Grace 1. Some day the silver cord will break, And I no more as now shall sing; But oh, the joy when I shall wake Within the palace of the King! (Refrain) And I shall see Him face to face, And tell the story—-Saved by grace; And I shall see Him face to face, And tell the story—-Saved by grace. 2. Some day my earthly house will fall, I cannot tell how soon ’twill be; But this I know-—my All in All Has now a place in heav’n for me. (Refrain) 3. Some day, when fades the golden sun Beneath the rosy-tinted west, My blessed Lord will say, “Well done!” And I shall enter into rest. (Refrain) 4. Some day: till then I’ll watch and wait, My lamp all trimmed and burning bright, That when my Saviour opes the gate, My soul to Him may take its flight. (Refrain)

Noah Webster: A Man of Words and the WORD

Noah Webster spent decades shaping the American language and education, but his deepest conviction was that a society must be grounded in the Word of God. This episode traces his 38-year labor on an American dictionary and the faith that guided his life and work. Listen to his clarion call to return as a nation to the truth of God's Word. We can no longer afford to treat the symptoms of sin in our nation - we must address it at its root.  Read Scott's Book "The Need of Our Nation" HERE [https://enjoyingthejourney.org/topics/need-of-our-nation/] Read more about this HERE.
