What's next? Freebies! & Cheat Sheets

This episode I have my very first guest, Ashleigh! We are going over the significance of the first few episodes and why it is so important to understand behavior before we can attempt to change it. We also discuss the next series I want to cover which is all the fun and fabulous ways we can reinforce behavior. I want listeners to understand the difference between a positive comment and a positive intervention. There are so many ways we can infuse positivity and reinforcement into learning new behaviors and skills and I want that information out there so we can all start to be more positive when it comes to changing/shaping behaviors. Learning new skills can be fun for kids and fun to teach when we are equipped with the right tools and strategies! Also very exciting news: We have created a new section on my website where you can access cheat sheets and different templates for the information I provide on each episode! These will certainly help keep everyone on the same page. Check them out at: www.uncomplicatebehaviorpodcast.com/resources [https://www.uncomplicatebehaviorpodcast.com/resources]

episode Positive Consequences? Tell me more! artwork

Positive Consequences? Tell me more!

This episode is about what happens after the behavior occurs. So, the behavior happened. Now what? How can we help change behavior by changing our own reaction or the consequence we provide? In episode 3, we discussed all the ways to be proactive; what you need to know, what you need to notice, those antecedents, triggers and setting events and how to make a plan to be proactive. But the unexpected always comes up, right?! and as much as we try, we can’t always be fully prepare for those unexpected moments of challenging behaviors. That's why it's so important to understand the significance of our reaction and response and the affect it has on the future occurrence of that behavior. Challenging behaviors are going to happen, they happen every day especially for us parents, teacher, and practitioners. What is important is how we take those behaviors and shape them into something we want to see, a positive way for them to get their needs met.

How To Be Proactive

This new episode is all about being proactive! Learn all about antecedents, triggers and setting events; what they are, and why they are so important to behavior change. You will learn how to identify variables that proceed behavior and how to make a plan to intervene positively before the behavior occurs. You will learn the best way to solve a behavior problem is to be prepared and have a plan. This information goes hand in hand with Episode 2 Functions of Behavior. [https://uncomplicatebehaviorpodcast.com/podcast/episode-2] We have to understand what the function or purpose of the behavior is so we can teach that new skill that will appropriately replace the challenging behavior. If you haven’t had a chance to listen to Episode 2, go ahead and do that first. Episode 2 is full of basic foundational knowledge that will help you understand what I’m talking about when I say, “We have to know the Function”.
