What messes with your head?
When it comes to study, it can be hard to recognise when you need help and overcome the barriers to actually ask for help. Steph and John are joined by University of Adelaide student Asirah to explore the reasons why it can be difficult to ask for support, including fear of failure, cultural differences, family pressure and much more. Hear different tips that have helped them with overcoming those barriers and what’s helped (or hindered) along the way. ------------- University of Adelaide study support services: Disability support: https://www.adelaide.edu.au/disability/ Counseling support: https://www.adelaide.edu.au/counselling/ International student support: https://international.adelaide.edu.au/international-student-support Wellbeing Hub: https://www.adelaide.edu.au/student/wellbeing/ ------------- Links to research used in the episode: https://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/93-per-cent-of-international-students-suffering-poor-mental-health-due-to-no-on-campus-study-survey-finds/8out2dcpd https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/1028315319861362 https://internationaleducation.gov.au/International-network/Australia/InternationalStrategy/EGIProjects/Documents/ORYGEN%20-%20International%20Student%20Mental%20Health%20and%20Physical%20Safety%20June%202020.pdf https://www.jstor.org/stable/3447777 https://www.latrobe.edu.au/nest/5-unexpected-perks-mature-age-study/ ------------- Have thoughts or suggestions for the show?
