Eating Fresh on Bainbridge (WU-612)

Joe Pulicicchio, Director of Promotions & Produce and Floral for Town & Country Markets returns to share his deep knowledge of fresh fruits and vegetables where they come from and how they get to our grocery shelves. In this monthly discussion, Joe shares more information about grapes and especially the importance of texture when selecting and eating them.  He also explains how to tell if a melon has been picked at peak flavor by checking out what the stem attachment looks like. Island Cooperative Preschool Big Event (WU-611)

Today, two members of the Island Cooperative Preschool organization, Sunny Stanley and Ellen Carleson tell us about the preschool and a very important upcoming event:  The Island Cooperative Preschool is hosting the annual Spring Concert  [https://islandcoop.org/concert-2023]on Sunday, March 19, at IslandWood [https://islandwood.org/]. The doors open at 12 PM and the concert starts at 12:30 PM. This year, we are showcasing the very talented, local musician and dad, Johnny Bregar [https://www.johnnybregar.com/] who has been on NPR's All Things Considered [https://www.npr.org/2006/12/06/6576654/childrens-tunes-revive-spirit-of-punk-rock].  This is the annual fundraiser, as well, and it its pivotal to our success as a cooperative preschool. Joe Pulicicchio, Director of Promotions & Produce and Floral for Town & Country Markets returns to our podcast desk today after a two-year pandemic hiatus.  This is the inaugural edition of our new monthly podcast that is called ‘Eating Fresh on Bainbridge’ and will explore the ever-changing array of quality fresh fruits and vegetables that make their way to the produce shelves through the seasons. We’ll also be exploring the various challenges of weather and other conditions that can directly affect availability and quality of all produce on a week-to-week, month-to-month basis. In this program Joe discusses a wide array of fruits and vegetables including grapes, mangos, red berries and asparagus.  He explains the process of taking the seed out of a mango and how important the idea of texture is when eating produce. Steve Stolee, a key player in the Island Theatre 10-Minute Play Festival joins us today on What’s Up Bainbridge to discuss this year’s festival and a few more things. He shares some interesting background and perspective about the Island Theatre, its origins and how it operates.  You’ll also hear about how the Festival is organized and how you can get involved!
