Descripción

Dr. Shalini Prasad, PhD is a professor of bioengineering at the University of Texas at Dallas. She is the co-founder of EnLiSense, a wearable patch to monitor biomarkers crucial for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), and other disease states. She also has worked on countless other devices, ranging from sensors to detect aflatoxin in corn to breath-based tests for lung cancer.  In this episode we discussed how she went about developing the EnLiSense patch from a biomechanical engineering perspective, how she got grant funding, and how she is going about getting this sensor insurance reimbursable. We also discuss strategies on how physicians and other healthcare providers can go about working with engineers to create devices like this is they don't have an engineering background. A lot of pearls of wisdom in this episode for someone that is interested in brining a medical device into existence!

Episode 21: Bryant Burciaga - How to Value and Invest in Healthcare & Biotech Equities

You understand the science. But do you understand the stock? As a healthcare professional, you already have an edge most investors can never buy — you can read clinical literature, evaluate treatment efficacy, and spot genuine medical breakthroughs. The missing piece? The financial framework to turn that expertise into smarter investing decisions. In this episode, I sit down with Bryant Burciaga — former buy-side equity research analyst turned consultant — to help healthcare providers bridge the gap between scientific fluency and financial literacy. We cover: * How to build and interpret financial models for biotech and healthcare equities * The key catalysts that drive stock movement in this sector * Red flags that signal a biotech company is in financial distress * Where to find analyst reports — and how to understand what's already priced into the market For anyone that wanted to translate their scientific knowledge into healthcare/biotech investing, this is a can't miss episode! Your knowledge of medicine is your moat. This episode helps you use it!
