Chronological Reading of the Bible - Day 143 - May 23, 2026

This is part of a year long reading of the Bible chronologically in a harmonized format. Psalms 34:1-22 - David praises the Lord continually and invites the afflicted to glorify God together. - The Lord delivers the righteous who fear him, while evil slays the wicked. Psalms 52:1-9 - The psalm condemns the boastful evildoer whose deceitful tongue plots destruction. - God will uproot the wicked, but the righteous will trust in God's steadfast love. Psalms 56:1-13 - David cries for mercy amid relentless pursuit by proud enemies who twist his words. - He trusts in God without fear, knowing God records his tears and delivers him from death. Psalms 120:1-7 - In distress, the psalmist calls on the Lord for deliverance from lying lips and deceit. - He laments living among hostile people who seek war despite his peaceful words. Psalms 140:1 - 142:7 - David prays for protection from violent evildoers who set traps and stir war. - He pours out his complaint to God in a cave, declaring the Lord as his refuge amid faint spirit and snares. Matthew 26:21-25 - Jesus announces one of the disciples eating with him will betray him. - Judas asks if it is him, and Jesus confirms it is the one who dipped bread with him. Mark 14:18-21 - While eating, Jesus declares one of the twelve eating with him will betray the Son of Man. - Woe is pronounced on the betrayer, for whom it would have been better not to be born. Luke 22:21-23 - Jesus states the betrayer's hand is on the table with his during the meal. - The Son of Man goes as decreed, but woe to the one who betrays him as the disciples question among themselves. John 13:21-30 - Troubled, Jesus reveals one disciple will betray him, prompting confusion among them. - He identifies Judas by giving him dipped bread, after which Satan enters him and Judas leaves into the night.

Mark 14:12-16 - On Passover preparation day, Jesus sends two disciples into the city to follow a man with a water jar to a furnished upper room. - The disciples find everything exactly as Jesus described and prepare the Passover meal there. Luke 22:7-13 - Jesus instructs Peter and John to prepare Passover in Jerusalem, directing them to a man carrying water who leads to a ready upper room. - They locate the room precisely as told and make all arrangements for the meal. Matthew 26:20 - When evening arrives, Jesus reclines at the table with the twelve disciples for the Passover meal. Mark 14:17 - In the evening, Jesus arrives at the house with the twelve disciples for the Passover supper. Luke 22:14-16 - At the hour for the meal, Jesus and the apostles recline at table as he expresses his deep desire to share this Passover before his suffering. - He declares he will not eat it again until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God. Luke 22:24-30 - The disciples argue over who is greatest; Jesus teaches that true leadership means serving like the youngest, following his own example. - He promises the faithful apostles thrones to judge Israel's tribes in his coming kingdom.

John 12:2-8 - At a supper in Bethany, Mary anoints Jesus' feet with expensive perfume and wipes them with her hair, filling the house with fragrance. - Judas objects claiming concern for the poor, but Jesus defends Mary, saying she has kept it for His burial day and the poor are always present. Matthew 26:17-19 - On the first day of Unleavened Bread, the disciples ask Jesus where to prepare the Passover meal. - Jesus directs them to a specific man in the city; they follow His instructions and prepare the Passover.

Matthew 26:6-13 - A woman pours expensive perfume on Jesus' head at Simon the leper's house in Bethany, anointing Him. - Jesus defends her act as preparation for His burial and says her deed will be remembered wherever the gospel is preached. Mark 14:3-9 - While at Simon the leper's home, a woman breaks an alabaster jar of costly nard ointment and pours it on Jesus' head. - Jesus praises her for anointing Him ahead of burial and declares her action will be told in memory of her throughout the world.
