Berlin Sidenote tx001a "Nikolas Schreck, the brothers Gold, and the depression stick"

This first Berlin Footnote Sidenote leaves the route-map for a dispatch of performances, conversations, and stray transmissions. We begin at the Casino for Social Medicine on Sonnenallee, where Daniel Zander performs at a monthly Künstler-Künstlerin evening hosted by Annita Sleep. From there, a Wally George clip opens a door into Nikolas Schreck, Radio Werewolf, and the theatrical machinery of the Satanic Panic. The thread returns to Berlin through Ethan Gold and Ari Gold, who introduce Agnes to Schreck during the Berlinale. Schreck recounts a teenage vision of Weimar-era Berlin and the Romanisches Café, then reflects on Radio Werewolf's "Epiphany on the Freinberg." The episode then turns toward the Brothers Gold: Ari, Ethan, their mother Melissa Gold, Bill Graham's Berlin childhood and San Francisco afterlife, Herbert Gold, Father Verses Sons, Brother Verses Brother, and Ethan Gold's "I'm Always Sad." Episode Beats * Casino for Social Medicine as a Neukölln third space, clinic, bar, mutual-aid room, and performance setting. * Daniel Zander's performance at a monthly Kunstler-Kunstlerin evening. * The Wally George Show, Radio Werewolf, and Nikolas Schreck's televised occult menace. * Schreck's account of a past-life vision at the Romanisches Café. * "Epiphany on the Freinberg," Wagner's Rienzi, August Kubizek, and the dangerous mythic charge of political revelation. * Ari and Ethan Gold as the Brothers Gold: twins, songs, family performance, and comic melancholy. * Bill Graham as a Berlin-born Jewish child refugee who later helped define the modern rock concert. * Ari Gold's Helicopter, grief work, Alejandro Jodorowsky, and psychomagic. * Herbert Gold, Father Verses Sons, and Brother Verses Brother as late-family correspondence turned live-cinema odyssey. * Ethan Gold's "I'm Always Sad" and the childhood image of the "depression stick." Berlin Footnote tx001 "Charlottengrad and the sunken village of Lietzow"

Berlin Footnote is a psychogeographic audio series. A map made of detours.  We follow Berlin’s subconscious through courtyards, side-streets, lake edges, and hidden passageways where the official story frays and other voices slip through. Transmission 001 begins at an enigmatic concrete banana under the bridge at Stuttgarter Platz and drifts into Charlottengrad, towards Lietzensee.  It’s a walking tour not limited to those who are physically taking it.   We visit diasporic bookstores, local characters, historical oddities, Vladimir Nabokov’s Berlin as a flickering double-exposure, as well as Aleister Crowley lurking at the edges of Weimar nightlife.  Plus legends that won’t stay buried: the sunken village of Lietzow, as well as the Eternal and inevitable resuscitation of the white lady of Hohenzollern . What you’ll hear * A guided walk with story-driven stops (listen anywhere) * Neighborhood history + folklore, mythologies stitched into one signal +  * Bonus context, misfiled footnotes, and music  Homepage: https://www.berlinfootnote.com [https://www.berlinfootnote.com] YouTube trailer: https://www.youtube.com/21qdwBPrX7o [https://www.youtube.com/21qdwBPrX7o] Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/c/BerlinFootnote [https://www.patreon.com/c/BerlinFootnote] RSS: https://feeds.transistor.fm/berlin-footnote [https://feeds.transistor.fm/berlin-footnote] Credits & thanks Places & partners * Zum Hecht * Happy-Go-Lucky Hostel * Klick Kino * Music Train Records * Hedayat Persian Bookstore & Café * Gelkion Russian Bookstore * Michael Thomas Schröder Stiftung * Gallery 15 * Balavat * Bürger für Lietzensee e.V. — Chairman Michael Wassiluk * Parkhaus am Lietzensee e.V. — Chairs Carsten Knobloch & Katja Baumeister-Frenzel People * Ludwig Füllen * Renate von Charlottenburg * Hans von Döhren & Gunde von Döhren * Roland Reither  * Marilena Mannevy * Anne Jelena Schülte * Daniel Zander * Christian Flemm * Jesse Larner * Thorsten Fleisch * RBB Mitarbeiter Chor * Hilde Wasserkampf * Anissa Nyamhandu * Devin Scheimberg Music Special thanks to Wolfgang Reiner, Mary Ocher, and Olgierd Bohuszewicz for the incredible music. ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★ [https://www.patreon.com/c/BerlinFootnote]
