Chale, There Has To Be More
From Biomedical Engineering to Public Health Impact: Daniel’s Career Journey from Ghana to Lesotho I host my former mentor Daniel, a Ghanaian biomedical engineer currently in Lesotho, to discuss career, impact, and personal growth. Daniel explains choosing biomedical engineering over medicine due to an interest in improving health beyond conventional treatment, later adding nutrition and fitness certifications. After national service as a teaching assistant, he worked from 2017–2023 in a biomedical equipment firm handling hospital construction, installations, training, maintenance, and business development, including supporting equipment used in a conjoined-twins separation. Seeking broader impact, he intentionally transitioned into the nonprofit/public health space, filling skill gaps with courses and moving to Lesotho for a technical-public health role focused on liquid oxygen systems, later pursuing a remote UK MPH while working. We discuss cultural adjustments, honest interviewing, imposter syndrome as a driver for growth, avoiding comparison, staying open-minded, managing energy through exercise and family, and exploring interests beyond career, including modeling and photography. Chale, what do you think about this episode? Any new lessons?😁 [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2523566/fan_mail/new]
