Chaos to Clarity
He cycled 25 kilometres each way to play cricket. His father was a car driver who lost his job for four years for standing up for workers. The family could not afford anything else. So Ajay Rajput got on a bicycle. In this episode of Chaos To Clarity, Piyush Thacker sits down with Ajay Rajput, head coach at Mumbai Cricket Club and former first-class cricketer for Madhya Pradesh. From the Ordnance Factory colony in Jabalpur, Ajay climbed every step of Indian cricket. He won school nationals against Sachin Tendulkar's old school at Eden Gardens, took 45 wickets a season in division cricket before finally making the Ranji squad, played league cricket in England (60 wickets a season in Skipton), and bowled to Virat Kohli in Johannesburg as the highest wicket taker in the league. Today he coaches at MCC under Jwala Singh, the academy that raised Prithvi Shaw and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Ajay shares the chair in the second stand that taught him more than any coach, why home cooked food beats every protein powder, why bigger players are always more humble, and what he would tell his 13-year-old self today. If you have ever felt like your work is not being seen, listen to this one.
