This is US | Part 5 | Sow WHAT? | Chris Voigt

I enjoy cooking and baking. I love to play piano and sing. I read every day. And Lexi and I have fun doing a jigsaw puzzle every now and then. But I’ve never been into gardening. It’s just not my thing. But Avery is, and she likes berries, so a few years ago, I planted a few strawberry starts in my backyard. Those few strawberry starts slowly began to grow. Eventually those little plants had little blossoms that transformed over time into strawberries! And Avery and I got to pick the fruit and celebrate the gift of berries. Easy to harvest... and delicious. We've been taking these first few weeks of 2026 to remind ourselves of who we are as a church family. We're on a journey together - a family road trip, so to speak - and we're revisiting the shared values that define who we are and shape how we live. We've titled this series of messages, This Is US. We've looked at our values of Biblical Truth, Grace, Spiritual Growth, and Excellence. This week we're taking a look at our value of Evangelism. Now, I'll acknowledge - that word can be a bit intimidating. That's because evangelism is probably one of the most misunderstood aspects of our faith as followers of Jesus. We hear that word and think of people on street corners shouting, "Repent!!" or knocking on neighborhood doors and trying to convince people to convert, as if Jesus was the latest and greatest new product on the market. But evangelism is a lot more like gardening than like shouting or convincing.  I invite you to join us this Sunday  at 11 AM. We're taking the first few weeks of 2026 to remind ourselves of who we are as a church family. Being part of a family is about belonging and becoming; about the journey that we're on together, and the shared values that define who we are and shape how we live. We've titled this series of messages, This Is US. So far, we've looked at the values of Biblical Truth, Grace, and Spiritual Growth. Now in week four, we're taking a look at our value of Excellence. This is week 3 of our series: This Is Us. We live in a very self-centered, individualistic culture. But Jesus talked about the Church as His body - one whole, made up of many parts. Just as your hand or big toe wouldn't function effectively (or... at all!) if it were disconnected from your physical body, there's no option for going it alone - disconnected from other believers - in your journey as a Christ-follower. "Have you ever heard of grace?" That's the question a friend of mine received from a frustrated parent. She was working in Christian higher ed, overseeing a community service program - the completion of which was a requirement for students to walk at graduation and receive their diplomas. This particular student had not completed the requirement and had lied about it, and been caught. So, no pomp and circumstance for him - or his disappointed parents. But it begs the question... what is grace? Would grace give him a pass or hold him accountable?
