"Christmas Pudding Murder?" - Do It Again But Better, Monty Burgess

On this episode of Do It Again But Better, Jess chats to actor Monty Burgess about their vast array of procedural roles, the Heartbreak High experience that almost came full circle, and the raunchy audiobook line that takes the cake—and speaking of, Monty shares stories of his love for baked treats and where to find them, the real-life Party Down job that brought gratitude, and the audition they nailed but somehow, didn't book. Monty Burgess was deported from the United Kingdom for unspecified unlawfulness in the late 1980s. After stretches of time in various juvenile facilities, Monty was ill advisedly persuaded to attend university for his own betterment. After the diversion of attaining a degree in psychology and literature, he achieved a level of self determination and was able to turn his focus to his true passion - acting. Having worked on little bits and pieces, as drama series in Australia started to shut up shop (Blue Heelers, Water Rats, McLeod's Daughters, Murder Call), yearning for more training, Monty headed back to the UK, where he lived, studied and worked for over a decade. All was well and on the up until the British government decided to shoot itself in the foot and leave the EU, to which Monty thought to himself 'well fuck that for a joke', and returned to Australia in 2017. Bridget Sweeney (she/her) is a professional silly goose with feathers in many pies — on stage, off stage, and behind the scenes. A graduate of the National Theatre Drama School, the Victorian College of the Arts, and the London Film Academy, she’s now based in Naarm/Melbourne. Her work spans writing and performing weekly children’s entertainment and teaching Shakespeare to teens. Bridget’s eclectic creative life comes together under her brand artistic allsort — a home for all her artistic adventures, whether performing, directing, teaching, or producing. She is currently the Marketing Manager for Melbourne Shakespeare Company so you can generally find her staring through or at a screen (but preferably a stage). She takes particular delight in capturing moments from the stage for the socials… having created the marketing and content for Othello and other productions in MSC’s recent seasons. Jack spills the beans on his infamous drama school audition, what it was like joining the cast of Paw Patrol, and the role he never seems to be able to escape from, John Proctor. Having toured together for many years, Jackson and Jess reminiscence on their shared stage experiences, reveal the origin of Jacko's alter ego, and as the wine and ale continues to flow freely, enjoy a very on-pitch singalong. Jackson is an award-winning actor who works in theatre and film. Stage credits include: Macduff (Macbeth - Australian Shakespeare Company); Clown (The 39 Steps - Hearth Theatre); John Proctor (The Crucible - Australian Shakespeare Company); Mystery of the Valkyrie (QPAC, Woodward Productions); The Owl and the Pussycat (Little Match Productions National Tour - Matilda Award Winner); Naked and Screaming (La Boite Theatre Company - Matilda Nominee); Happy/Howard (Death of a Salesman - Queensland Theatre - Matilda Nominee); Benjamin/Snowball (Animal Farm - Shake and Stir National Tour); Wisdom (Queensland Theatre); and Bottom (A Midsummer Night's Dream - Melbourne Shakespeare Company). Bonding over the theatre-making skills they respectively picked up back in the day at Monash University, Sham shares some performance triumphs and disasters, like the time they accidentally turned up blue at an audition, the time they forgot about their Zoom audition during a hot girl Covid walk so did it crouching by the side of the road, and the time they tried to summon Sour Patch Kids through their mirror. Shamita Siva is a multi-faceted performer with a background in dance. She holds a BA Performing arts, and is an alum of Stella Adler AoA LA. Shamita's talent shines on stage and screen. Theatre highlights include “Nosferatu," (Malthouse), and "Mara Korper" (Citizen Theatre), and multiple feature films including "FOE”, “La Famiglia, and “Thunder”; an upcoming boxing indie feature. Shamita also stars in Single Out (S3 and S4), and is a series regular on Stan/ CW show “Good Cop, Bad Cop” as Officer Sarika Ray.
