Private practice burnout can mimic ADHD symptoms — especially in high-achieving women — and understanding the difference can change everything. If you’ve ever felt like your brain just… stopped working… This episode is for you. WHEN BURNOUT FEELS LIKE SOMETHING ELSE There was a point in my private practice journey where I was convinced something was wrong with me. I couldn’t focus. I couldn’t finish tasks. I felt constantly overwhelmed — no matter how much I rested. I truly believed I had ADHD. So I did what many people would do… I went to get evaluated. WHAT I DISCOVERED CHANGED EVERYTHING After going through the full assessment process… I was not diagnosed with ADHD. And I was shocked. Because the symptoms I was experiencing felt very real. But the reason I wasn’t diagnosed? Those patterns weren’t present earlier in my life. Which led me to a powerful realization: 👉 A dysregulated nervous system from prolonged burnout can mimic neurodivergence HOW BURNOUT MIMICS ADHD SYMPTOMS In this episode, I break down how burnout can present in ways that look like ADHD: ✔ EXECUTIVE DYSFUNCTION Struggling with organization, focus, and completing tasks ✔ EMOTIONAL DYSREGULATION Increased irritability, anxiety, and impulsivity ✔ SENSORY OVERLOAD Heightened sensitivity to noise, light, and stimulation ✔ LOSS OF JOY Disconnection from things you once enjoyed ✔ CHRONIC FATIGUE Feeling exhausted no matter how much you rest ✔ “MASKING” BURNOUT Forcing yourself to function… until you can’t anymore WHY THIS HAPPENS When your body has been in survival mode for too long… Your nervous system becomes dysregulated. Deep work → high-focus blocks Shallow work → admin, emails, meetings When you align your schedule with your energy… You get more done in less time. 4. SELF-LEADERSHIP FOR PRIVATE PRACTICE OWNERS: HOW TO STOP GETTING IN YOUR OWN WAY Who are you really competing with? Other private practice owners? Other clinicians? Other businesses online? Or… yourself? In Episode #48 of The F.E.A.R. Chronicles, we explore one of the most important shifts for sustainable private practice growth: Self-leadership. Because the truth is — most of what’s slowing you down… Isn’t external. It’s internal. THE REAL REASON YOU FEEL STUCK It’s easy to believe that your lack of progress is due to: Not enough time Not enough resources Not enough strategy But more often than not, the real reason is: You’re getting in your own way. Through: Overthinking Comparison Perfectionism Procrastination These patterns don’t just delay progress… They keep you stuck on the same level. THE “GAME” OF PRIVATE PRACTICE GROWTH Think of your life and business like a game. Each level represents your growth. To reach the next level, you need: New decisions New actions New ways of thinking But there’s one rule: You can’t skip levels. You have to go through the portal. And inside that portal? Your fears. THE ONLY WAY TO LEVEL UP IS THROUGH Most people try to avoid discomfort. They hesitate. They overanalyze. They try to find a way around it. But growth doesn’t happen by avoiding fear. It happens by facing it. Because everything you want: Your next level Your expansion Your success Exists on the other side of that fear. THE PATTERNS THAT KEEP YOU STUCK As you grow, certain patterns will show up again and again. 1️⃣ COMPARISON Looking at what others are doing and measuring yourself against them. But the truth is: You are not on the same timeline. You are not building the same business. Comparison pulls you out of your lane — and slows your growth. 2️⃣ PERFECTIONISM Waiting until everything is “just right.” Tweaking. Overthinking. Delaying. But perfectionism doesn’t create progress. Action does. Done is always better than perfect. 3️⃣ PROCRASTI-PLANNING Overplanning scenarios that haven’t even happened yet. Trying to anticipate every possible outcome. But clarity doesn’t come from planning more. It comes from doing. 4️⃣ PROCRASTI-LEARNING Waiting until you feel “ready.” Taking more courses. Gaining more certifications. But you don’t build confidence through learning alone. You build it through action. WHY OVERTHINKING KEEPS YOU ON THE SAME LEVEL One of the biggest traps in private practice growth is trying to see too far ahead. You don’t need to know 3 levels ahead. You only need to move through the level you’re in. Because the next level becomes visible… After you take action. SELF-LEADERSHIP IS THE UNLOCK Self-leadership means: Taking ownership of your thoughts Your behaviors Your actions It means recognizing that: You create your results You are responsible for your growth You have the ability to change your patterns And when you step into that role… Everything shifts. STOP GETTING IN YOUR OWN WAY Most of the obstacles you’re facing aren’t external. They’re internal patterns that: Create hesitation Delay action Keep you repeating the same cycle But once you become aware of them… You can interrupt them. Private Practice Doesn’t Have to Be Hard: How to Build Without Burnout If you’ve ever caught yourself thinking: “Why is this so hard?” “What am I doing wrong?” “Why is this taking so long?” You’re not alone. In Episode #47 of The F.E.A.R. Chronicles, we explore one of the most important mindset shifts for private practice owners: It doesn’t have to be hard. Because what if the struggle you’re experiencing isn’t coming from your business… But from the way you’re thinking about it? THE HIDDEN BELIEF THAT LEADS TO BURNOUT Many private practice owners have been conditioned to believe: Success requires struggle Growth takes time More income = more effort So they push harder. Work longer hours. Overextend themselves. Try to “earn” their success. And eventually? They burn out. But just because something feels hard… doesn’t mean it has to be. ARE YOU MAKING IT HARDER THAN IT NEEDS TO BE? Take a step back and zoom out. Is your current situation actually difficult? Or is it: A story A belief A pattern That has been repeated so many times… it now feels like truth? Your thoughts shape your beliefs. Your beliefs shape your behaviors. Your beliefs about: Time Effort Money Success Directly influence how your business feels. If you believe it has to be hard… It will be. YOU DON’T HAVE TO BURN OUT TO BUILD A SUCCESSFUL PRACTICE You can grow your private practice… Without overworking Without sacrificing your life Without burning out It starts with building a foundation that: Supports you Aligns with your life Grows with you And that foundation begins internally. THE POWER OF DETACHMENT If you want things to feel easier, start here: 1️⃣ DETACH FROM THE GOAL When your goal is placed on a pedestal, it feels far away. The gap between you and that goal expands. Instead: Bring it closer. Embody it daily. Take aligned action. Close the gap through BEing — not chasing. 2️⃣ DETACH FROM THE OUTCOME Stop fixating on the end result. Focus on the process. Because everything you need to succeed… Exists in the journey. 3️⃣ DETACH FROM THE “HOW” “I don’t know how.” “I’m not ready yet.” This is where most people get stuck. Instead: Break your vision into smaller, actionable steps. Take one step at a time. Clarity comes from movement — not waiting. YOUR BELIEFS ABOUT MONEY AND SUCCESS MATTER Many private practice owners operate from: More money = more time = more effort So they unintentionally create a business model that requires overworking.
