Over Fly Fish Forever

The official podcast of Fly Fishers International. Join us each season as we explore the incredible people and places of the sport of fly-fishing. In Season I, we will travel across the varied landscapes of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. Covering over 64,000 square miles, with more than 100,000 streams, creeks and rivers, the watershed stretches from central New York to southern Virginia and boasts an incredible diversity of species to target on the fly. Over the season's 20 episodes we will meet with some of the top guides, anglers and conservationists in the region. Whether you want to learn to target a new species, understand the massive effort underway to restore the Bay, or just hear from a wide and diverse range of experts, this season is for you. Episode XX - Chesapeake Tales with the Braker Bros

On the final episode of the first season of the Fly Fish Forever podcast, we have the opportunity to sit down with two young filmmaking brothers, Andrew and Eric Braker. Their previous film, "A Journey Upstream [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-Q-YriUDFQ]" served as an inspiration to FFI to celebrate the Chesapeake Bay Watershed in its entirety with the Chesapeake Bay Watershed campaign. We'll talk a bit about their previous film. However, our real focus will be a behind-the-scenes look at what went into making FFI's just-released seven-part YouTube Series "Chesapeake Tales", and FFI's film in the International Fly Fishing Film Festival [https://www.flyfilmfest.com/], "Chesapeake: A Love Letter to a Watershed", debuting tomorrow, which document the brother's quest to visit seven distinct fisheries in seven days across the watershed.  Presented by Fly Fishers International Sponsored by Costa Sunglasses & Cheeky Fishing

Episode XIX - Return to the River with Rappahannock Chief Anne Richardson

On the penultimate episode of the first season of the Fly Fish Forever podcast, we have the chance to meet Chief Anne Richardson of the Rapphannock Tribe [https://www.rappahannocktribe.org/]. We'll talk about the history and legacy of the Tribe's 11,000 years in the Rappahannock River watershed and what the Tribe is doing to pass along traditional skills and knowledge to its youth through its Return to the River program. We'll also have an opportunity to hear about one of the great success stories in the growing movement to return land back to indigenous tribes and nations with the return of the cliffs of Pissacoack [https://www.chesapeakeconservancy.org/fonescliffs], an area with special significance to the Rappahannocks. Last, we'll hear about the proposed Chesapeake National Recreation Area [https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2022/11/14/chesapeake-national-recreation-area/] and what you can do to support its creation. Episode XVIII - A Lifetime of Fishing & Lefty Kreh with Bob Clouser

On this week's episode, we have a really special opportunity to hear from one of fly-fishing's living legends, Bob Clouser. Bob isn't only famous as the inventor of the Clouser Minnow or as the author of Fly Fishing for Smallmouth in Rivers and Streams, he is a true icon of the Susquehanna River, the largest tributary of the Chesapeake Bay. We'll have the chance to hear some of Bob's life story, from growing up as a young boy in Central Pennsylvania, fishing his local streams, to the decades he spent as a fly shop owner and guide on the "Susky". However, much of the episode is actually devoted to reminiscing on the many memories that Bob has of fishing with his longtime friend, the late Lefty Kreh, a fellow Chesapeake watershed native and one of the most iconic fly anglers in history.  Presented by Fly Fishers International Sponsored by Costa Sunglasses & Cheeky Fishing

Episode XVII - The State of Striped Bass with American Saltwater Guides Association

On this week's episode, we have the opportunity to meet with Willy Goldsmith, the Executive Director, and Will Poston, a Policy Associate, at the American Saltwater Guides Association [https://saltwaterguidesassociation.com/]. We'll go pretty in-depth into the Amendment 7 process, a regulatory update to the Striped Bass Management Plan, which occurred earlier this year and discuss its importance to the future of one of America's most popular sport fish, as well probably the most iconic species of the watershed. We'll also discuss why the Chesapeake Bay Watershed is so important to the health and future of Striped Bass and share a few stories about the hard-fighting, "every person's fish".  Presented by Fly Fishers International Sponsored by Costa Sunglasses & Cheeky Fishing

Episode XVI - Fly-Fishing the Delmarva Peninsula with Joe Bruce

After a five week hiatus, the Fly Fish Forever podcast returns for the final five episodes of Season I: Chesapeake with a very timely and relevant subject: the mighty-mite of the Esox world, the Chain Pickerel, a native species to the Chesapeake Bay watershed, which just happen to be fantastic quarry in the cold winter months. We'll have a chance to hear from one of the Region's most respected fly fishing educators, fly tiers and writers, Joe Bruce. [http://www.joebruce.net/] He shares his experiences fishing with two of his long-time friends, Bob Clouser and Lefty Kreh, his knowledge of  the unique low-lying ponds of the Delmarva Peninsula, and why after seven decades fishing in the watershed, he still believes the Cheseapeake Bay region is where it's at.  Presented by Fly Fishers International Sponsored by Costa Sunglasses & Cheeky Fishing
