Spencer Boyer and Ambassador Philip T. Reeker

Our latest installment of Insight to Impact with Hannah Thibedeau explored the pressing international affairs issues between Canada and the U.S. with special guests Spencer Boyer and Ambassador Philip T. Reeker.  With media reports swirling that Canada is in advanced discussions with the European Union on greater defense and security collaboration, listen to a lively discussion on the broader geopolitical realignment between the United States, the European Union and how Canada fits in.  Both Washington, D.C.-based defense and security experts, Spencer P. Boyer and Ambassador Philip T. Reeker, partners at the DGA-Albright Stonebridge Group have had exemplary careers in the United States diplomatic service.    Boyer leads DGA-ASG’s National Security, Defense, and Aerospace practice, informed by more than 25 years of experience in the public, private and non-profit sectors in the United States and Europe. Prior to joining the firm, he served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for European and NATO Policy, where he was responsible for managing the day-to-day defense relationship between the United States and NATO, the EU and more than 40 European countries. He also served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs in the first Obama term.  Before joining DGA-ASG, Ambassador Reeker, who leads the firm’s Europe and Eurasia Practice, served as Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in the United Kingdom from 2021 to 2022 and was Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia from 2019 to 2021. Before retiring from the Foreign Service, he was the Secretary of State’s Senior Advisor for Caucasus Negotiations. He draws on 30 years of diplomatic experience to support clients with interests across the Europe and Eurasia region.    Their conversation also explored pressing international affairs issues beginning with their attendance at the 2025 Munich Security Conference and cover the War in Ukraine, the role of NATO and the future of diplomacy in our modern world.  First published on March 26, 2025.

The announcement of a pause on the imposition of new American and Canadian tariffs is good and welcome news for industry and citizens on both sides of the border.  That said, there remains important value in understanding the intricacies of the Canada-U.S. relationship from an economic and fiscal perspective, and the impacts that can emerge when those intricacies are under severe pressure.     Join Global’s Executive Communications Officer Hannah Thibedeau as she welcomes our special guest David Dodge, former Governor of the Bank of Canada and a leading Canadian voice on all matters of economic and fiscal policy. David will be sharing his thoughts on the evolving Canada-U.S. relationship and considerations for Canadian businesses to reflect on in these dynamic times.    First published February 5, 2025.
