Episode 6 features Dos-Ovni – an atmospheric, dark indie duo from Te-Matau-a-Maui Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand. Dos-Ovni consists of Deanne Beckett on guitar and vocals, and Liv Strawbridge on drums and samples. S1 E5: ZÖ

This week’s episode features Wellington-based independent Folk Alt-Pop artist ZÖ. ZÖ has been making waves in New Zealand with her blend of broody, sparse, and at times ambient music. Back in October 2021, ZÖ released an EP titled Do You Mind? - produced by Wellington Indie Electronica Artist and Producer Neil MacLeod. Do You Mind? is an introspective conversation between ZÖ, her ego, and her internal monologue – an attempt to break free of the clutches of her negative mindset and rewrite the neural pathways associated with the way in which she treats herself. S1 E4: distance

Episode 4 features Instrumental, Post-Rock band, distance – the brainchild of Christchurch-based Sam Butler. An amalgamation of metal, progressive, and ambient influence, distance (non-caps intended) is not unlike if Brian Eno were to collaborate with New Zealand band Jakob to create ambient Djent music. Back in 2020, distance released two five track EPs, and in this episode, I will showcase a couple of tracks from each of these records. Episode 3 features a project of London-based Kiwi, Shaun Blackwell. You may recognise the last name – yes, we are related. Shaun has spent the last 8 years in London working on various musical projects and now focuses largely on his solo project, Hemi Hemingway – described in his own words as a glittery, heartsick crooner who makes 60’s pop-inspired indie garage punk. Episode 3 focuses on Hemingway's The Lonely Hunter EP - released June 2021. S1 E2: Jack Hooker

Episode 2 features the music of Jack Hooker – a musician likely known in Wellington’s underground music scene for his role in electronic/post-rock outfit The Shocking and Stunning – one of my all-time favourite New Zealand bands. Jack’s second major musical output is instrumental acoustic guitar music, incorporating open tunings, seamlessly intricate fingerpicking, and percussive tapping techniques – reminiscent of Andy McKee. This episode features Jack’s Parlour EP – a short collection of original pieces played on an Art & Lutherie Parlour guitar – and released July 28th 2020.
