Over Peace, Planks + Prana || A Yoga Podcast

A podcast dedicated to the YOGA experience and ALL things social, spiritual + spicy. PEACE represents the elements of unity, community and connection we cultivate or have the potential to cultivate through our yoga practice and even through our relationship to the history and roots of the ancient practice of yoga; PLANKS represent the physical elements of yoga - our asana practice - the poses we do on our mat; PRANA represents the energetic elements - literally our "life force" - that connects our individual life to other individual lives and something bigger than any of us can be alone.

Studio Etiquette for Teachers

Peace, Planks + Prana is a podcast dedicated to the yoga experience as a student, teacher, or anyone curious about exploring a practice that connects your body, breath, and mind. Hosts Milissa Payne Bradley (Bay Area, CA) and Sharon Niryce Murriguez (Sicily, Italy) are passionate about practicing, teaching, living, sharing, and talking about yoga and its intersection with culture. In Episode #19 we dive into part 2 of our discussion about yoga studio etiquette. This time we are focusing on our behavior as teachers. How should we behave in the yoga studio space? What drives us crazy and what do we appreciate? Having an open conversation about our behavior as teachers can help us to be more self aware so that we can be even better at our craft and show up in our lives as more thoughtful human beings. Specifically in this episode we: * Take the seat of the student to explore teacher behavior that has made us uncomfortable in the past * Self assess our own behavior as teachers * Get into the specifics of what teachers can do to make students feel safe and welcome in their classes Tune in as we look in the mirror and reflect on how we can best embody our role as a yoga teacher. May your peace be long, may your planks be strong, and may your prana root you in each present moment.

Studio Etiquette for Students

Peace, Planks + Prana is a podcast dedicated to the yoga experience as a student, teacher, or anyone curious about exploring a practice that connects your body, breath, and mind. Hosts Milissa Payne Bradley (Bay Area, CA) and Sharon Niryce Murriguez (Sicily, Italy) are passionate about practicing, teaching, living, sharing, and talking about yoga and its intersection with culture. In Episode #18 we discuss yoga studio etiquette. How should we behave in the yoga studio space? What drives us crazy and what do we appreciate? Like many behaviors or expectations that involve common courtesy in how we treat one another or how we behave in shared spaces - a lot of this stuff may seem obvious. Yet, when we get busy or stressed sometimes we forget that this world is a shared space…so, our hope is that by having an open communication about behavioral expectations in the yoga studio environment, we can remove the stress of the unknown and make it easier for us to be considerate. And bonus, it also makes it much more accessible for new students to join us. Specifically in this episode we: * Share some of our pet peeves of behavior we have encountered in the yoga studio * Explore how we can foster communication to help prevent frustration * Acknowledge the necessity of self awareness and that occasionally we MIGHT overreact * Recount stories of our experiences from both the teacher and student perspective Tune in for a conversation that gets a little spicy as we spill the tea on what drives us crazy as yoga teachers. May your peace be long, may your planks be strong, and may your prana root you in each present moment.
