My Lockdown visits continue with a visit to Poppies in Camden Town [https://poppiesfishandchips.co.uk/locations/camden/]. We went on spec – I only go into places that clearly have good hygeine and that aren’t busy. The latter is sadly a very easy task in the current environment. Poppies had only 3 tables in use when I was there, when normally it’s packed. The Fish & Chips are some of the best I’ve had and certainly the best I’ve had in London. The haddock was fresh & perfectly cooked, nicely battered and crispy. The battered sausage was the same, not over-battered either. The chips are fantastic – proper chipshop chips with the right fluffy texture and just enough softness to make them right. All in all, you can’t go wrong with this place – worth a trip for me, and probably worth a trip for you too! * [https://i0.wp.com/www.tibblenibbles.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Battered-Sausage.jpg?resize=620%2C465&ssl=1]Battered Sausage & Chips * [https://i0.wp.com/www.tibblenibbles.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Battered-Sausage-Close-Up.jpg?resize=620%2C465&ssl=1]Battered Sausage Close Up * [https://i0.wp.com/www.tibblenibbles.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Curry-Sauce.jpg?resize=620%2C465&ssl=1]Curry Sauce * [https://i0.wp.com/www.tibblenibbles.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Large-Haddock.jpg?resize=620%2C465&ssl=1]Large Haddock & Chips * [https://i0.wp.com/www.tibblenibbles.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Large-Haddock-Close-Up.jpg?resize=620%2C465&ssl=1]Haddock Close Up * [https://i0.wp.com/www.tibblenibbles.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Mushy-Peas.jpg?resize=620%2C465&ssl=1]Mushy Peas * [https://i0.wp.com/www.tibblenibbles.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Poppies-Menu.jpg?resize=620%2C443&ssl=1] The post Tibble Nibbles Episode 43 – Poppies Fish & Chips Camden Town [https://www.tibblenibbles.com/2020/10/14/tibble-nibbles-episode-43-poppies-fish-chips-camden-town/] appeared first on Quick Restaurant Reviews in London [https://www.tibblenibbles.com].

Given we are in our inter-lockdown period, I’ve finally got out & about to try out some new places. I haven’t really had tapas since the incomporable El Parador closed a few years ago. Having finally got over my grief, I went and tried Bar Gansa [https://www.bargansa.co.uk] which is on Inverness Street just up from Camden Town Station. The place is nice & airy and the welcome was warm. We were the only people eating, a sign that people are still not going out much, as normally on a Tuesday night that paert of town is usually heaving. The menu is small, but has a nice choice. I like that cod features prominently on the menu, with bacalao a welcome sight. I didn’t have it this time, but I think I’ll be back to have it. My dining partner was meat-free, so since we were sharing I forwent the tempting morcilla and stuck to fish & veg. Our dinner was none the worse for it. Photos are below, but the star of the show for me was the Piquillo stuffed with brandada, a lovely dish of peppers filled with an unctuous cod, potato & cream mixture. The octopus was also delicious, and came in a close second. 5 tapas (though the octopus was for 2) was more than enough for us, and we wound up taking some of the Aubergine home for later. * [https://i0.wp.com/www.tibblenibbles.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Menu-1.jpg?resize=620%2C686&ssl=1]Menu First Page * [https://i0.wp.com/www.tibblenibbles.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Menu-2.jpg?resize=620%2C823&ssl=1]Menu Second Page * [https://i0.wp.com/www.tibblenibbles.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Bread-Olive-Oil.jpg?resize=620%2C465&ssl=1]Toasted Bread & Olive Oil * [https://i0.wp.com/www.tibblenibbles.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Piquillo-Peppers.jpg?resize=620%2C826&ssl=1]Piquillo & Brandada * [https://i0.wp.com/www.tibblenibbles.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Piquillo-Peppers-Close-up.jpg?resize=620%2C465&ssl=1]Piquillo & Brandada close up * [https://i0.wp.com/www.tibblenibbles.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Pista.jpg?resize=620%2C465&ssl=1]Pista * [https://i0.wp.com/www.tibblenibbles.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Pista-2.jpg?resize=620%2C465&ssl=1]Pista Egg Porn * [https://i0.wp.com/www.tibblenibbles.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Aubergine.jpg?resize=620%2C465&ssl=1]Aubergine, Cheese & Honey * [https://i0.wp.com/www.tibblenibbles.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Aubergine-Close-Up.jpg?resize=620%2C465&ssl=1]Aubergine, Cheese & Honey Close Up * [https://i0.wp.com/www.tibblenibbles.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Patatas-Bravas.jpg?resize=620%2C465&ssl=1]Half Eaten Patatas Bravas * [https://i0.wp.com/www.tibblenibbles.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Octopus-e1602022349258.jpg?resize=620%2C465&ssl=1]Galician Octopus After dinner we went around the corner to Amorino [https://www.amorino.com/en/], an ice cream place I’d walked past many times. It was really lovely, and their ice cream artistry was fantastic. The ice cream itself was excellent quality, though quite pricy. Another Takeaway today, and this time we try Chinese. I chose Canton Element [http://cantonelement.co.uk/about-us/]. This one was a new one to me, as my favourite place Mai Ling [http://maylingchinese.com/] was closed. I liked it! The sesame toast was the best takeaway I’ve had, and the soup was a little too hot, but delicious all the same. I loved the Shredded Beef, the mango really added to the flavour. The only bit that was a little bit of a letdown were the Capital Ribs, which had a batter on them and so were a bit odd. The egg fried rice was also excellent. It was quite expensive, made more so by ordering through Deliveroo. Was it worth it? Almost! * [https://i0.wp.com/www.tibblenibbles.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/01-Prawn-Toast.jpg?resize=620%2C826&ssl=1] * [https://i0.wp.com/www.tibblenibbles.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/02-Wonton-Soup.jpg?resize=620%2C826&ssl=1] * [https://i0.wp.com/www.tibblenibbles.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/03-Hot-Sour-Soup.jpg?resize=620%2C826&ssl=1] * [https://i0.wp.com/www.tibblenibbles.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/04-Prawn-Crackers.jpg?resize=620%2C826&ssl=1] * [https://i0.wp.com/www.tibblenibbles.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/05-Capital-Ribs.jpg?resize=620%2C826&ssl=1] * [https://i0.wp.com/www.tibblenibbles.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/06-Deep-Fried-Shredded-Beef.jpg?resize=620%2C826&ssl=1] * [https://i0.wp.com/www.tibblenibbles.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/07-Egg-Fried-Rice.jpg?resize=620%2C826&ssl=1] The post Tibble Nibbles Episode 39 – Canton Element Takeaway [https://www.tibblenibbles.com/2020/05/12/tibble-nibbles-episode-39-canton-element-takeaway/] appeared first on Quick Restaurant Reviews in London [https://www.tibblenibbles.com].
