This section of Exodus captures the remarkable encounter Moses has with the Lord. He cannot see him, yet he can know him. And now the God reveals himself in his Son, a greater and more perfect picture of all that he is. The Lord Listens to Moses (Exodus 32)

This section of Exodus is one of the most remarkable of the Old Testament as Moses intercedes for his people and the Lord listens, despite his fierce anger. In it, we are shown the power of intercession and the need for someone to stand in the breach for us; none other than the Lord Jesus Christ himself. The Lord Uses Moses (Exodus 14:13-22 & Psalm 77)

The Passover and subsequent flight from Egypt is the great redemption story of the Old Testament and becomes the paradigm for all of salvation. Moses is used by the Lord to lead his people out despite their fear. The Lord sets Moses before the people and, following him, they are led to safety and salvation. Moses’ encounter with the Lord in Exodus 3-4 is, in one sense, unique. Yet in it, God reveals his character, his plan for salvation, and his desire to use humans to serve his purposes. Rejoice in the Lord! (Philippians 4:1-13)

What does it look like to rejoice in the Lord always? Paul's exhortations in Philippians 4 help us see. Philippians 4 calls us to lead a vigilant life (v1-3), a radical life (v4-9), the result of the work of God’s Spirit, and a contented life (v10-13). About the speaker: Paul Mallard is FIEC's Director for the West Midlands and the chair of FIEC's Theology Team, helping churches and leaders to think through the key theological challenges facing us in 21st Century Britain.
