Step Up & Stand Out is the podcast for women who want to lead with confidence, courage, and authenticity, without burning out or pretending to be someone they’re not. Hosted by Tracy Duggan — The Flourish Coach, each short, practical episode blends real leadership conversations, evidence-based insights (think Amy Cuddy, Brené Brown, IIP, CIPD), and simple tools you can use straight away. If you’re an ambitious woman who’s ever doubted yourself, held back in meetings, or wondered when you’ll finally feel “ready”… this is your space. A place to grow, reflect, step up and — in your own way!

Voice: The courage to be heard.

In this episode of Step Up & Stand Out, I explore something that shapes careers, leadership, and belonging more than we often realise. Voice. Not just the ability to speak but the courage to be heard. Drawing on the work of Amy Edmondson, Matthew Lieberman, Daniel Kahneman and Daniel Coyle, I explore the psychology and neuroscience of speaking up, why silence so often signals risk rather than agreement, why our brains are wired to treat social threat like physical pain, and why even the most senior leaders can find their own voice becoming more controlled and less authentic over time. You'll hear: * Why silence in organisations is rarely a green light and often a warning sign * How leaders unintentionally teach rooms to stay quiet * Why women are more likely to wait until they feel fully ready before speaking up * How belonging and voice are deeply connected * And why confidence grows in cultures where contribution is welcomed, not judged I also share a personal story from early in my career about raising a concern, being ignored, and watching the consequences unfold years later. I also share exciting news about my contribution to Show Your Light, a collaborative book by 18 women, launching on 24th April. If you've ever: * Held back an idea until the moment passed * Edited yourself before speaking * Stayed silent when something didn't feel right * Or wondered why your voice feels smaller than it used to This episode will resonate. Because flourishing isn't about being louder, it's about knowing your voice matters and feeling safe enough to use it. Remember: Bravery is the action. Vulnerability is the openness. Trust is the bridge. Belonging is the outcome. 🎧 Listen for honest conversations, insight and practical encouragement designed to help you step up, stand out, and flourish on your own terms. 👉 Follow the podcast so you don't miss an episode, and share it with someone who might need this conversation too. Trust: The Bridge That Holds It All

In this third episode of Step Up & Stand Out, I explore the quiet force that determines whether bravery grows, or collapses. Trust. In Episode 1, we talked about bravery. In Episode 2, we explored belonging. And in this episode, I brings it all together. Because trust is the bridge between them. Drawing on the work of Daniel Coyle (The Culture Code), Brené Brown, Paul Zak and Stephen M.R. Covey, I explore the psychology and neuroscience of trust, why it’s built in small moments, why it erodes in micro-signals, and why it is never just a “soft” leadership skill. You’ll hear: * Why trust is a biological experience, not just an emotional one * How leaders unintentionally damage trust in everyday interactions * Why self-trust is the foundation of visible leadership * How trust sits at the heart of the Flourish® framework * And why confidence isn’t always the real issue, belonging is I also share an exciting announcement about her new book chapter, “Confidence Isn’t the Problem — Belonging Is,” part of a collaboration of 18 women brought together by Susie Sprigg, and how that story connects directly to the themes of bravery, belonging and trust. The book launches in April and I can't wait to share my story with you all.  If you’ve ever: * second-guessed yourself * felt misalignment in leadership * struggled to speak up * or wondered why culture feels fragile This episode will resonate. Because flourishing isn’t about being louder. It’s about building trust — in yourself and in others. And remember: Bravery is the action. Vulnerability is the openness. Trust is the bridge. Belonging is the outcome. 🎧 Listen in for honest conversations, gentle insight and practical encouragement — designed to help you step up, stand out, and flourish on your own terms. 👉 Follow the podcast so you don’t miss an episode. 👉 And if it resonates, share it with someone who might need this conversation too. Step Up and Standout ® Brave Enough to Begin - Episode 1

What does it really mean to be brave? In this very first episode of Step Up & Stand Out, I’m doing exactly what I encourage other women to do every day, stepping into visibility, embracing vulnerability, and beginning before I feel completely ready. This episode isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about choosing to begin anyway. I share why bravery isn’t the absence of fear, but the willingness to feel it… and move forward regardless. We’ll explore how self-belief shapes confidence, leadership, and the stories we tell ourselves, and why so many capable women still hold back, even when they’re more than ready. This podcast is my own act of courage. And if you’ve ever doubted yourself, felt like an imposter, or waited for the “right time” - this episode is for you. ✨ You don’t need to be fearless. ✨ You just need to be brave enough to begin. In this episode, I cover: * Why starting this podcast is an act of vulnerability for me * What bravery really looks like in leadership and life * The quiet ways self-doubt and imposter syndrome show up * Why confidence doesn’t come before action — it grows because of it * How self-belief underpins everything we do as leaders This episode also links directly to two ways you can continue your own self-belief journey: If you’d like to reflect on your own confidence and self-belief, you can complete my free Wheel of Self-Belief™ assessment here: 🛞 The Wheel of Self-Belief™ 👉 https://skillslocal.co.uk/the-wheel-of-self-belief/ It’s a simple but powerful way to understand where you’re thriving — and where you might be holding yourself back. This podcast goes hand-in-hand with my monthly newsletter, Time to Flourish™ — a space for reflection, leadership insight, and encouragement. 📨 Time to Flourish™ Newsletter If this episode resonated, I’d love you to join me there: 👉 https://skillslocal.co.uk/time-to-flourish-newsletter-2/ 💛 A gentle invitation If this episode spoke to you: * Follow or subscribe to Step Up & Stand Out * Share it with someone who needs a little courage right now * And yes… ring the bell 😉 so you don’t miss future episodes Thank you for being here at the very beginning. This is me, stepping up, standingout, and trusting that being real matters more than being perfect. Tracy x PS I’d love to hear from you. I’ve added a quick poll alongside this episode, not to judge yourself, just to notice. Where are you right now when it comes to starting something new?
