You have made a decision to give your child the opportunity to learn an instrument in the Suzuki way. You read articles and books on the Suzuki philosophy. You attended parent lectures. You started your listening routine (hopefully) and observed weekly lessons for some time.  Some things spoke to you straight away. With other things you chose to make the time to absorb. Some things created disagreement or maybe even resentment. But overall, you decided to go on with it. Thus, you started lessons and all went well. After a while the novelty started to wear. You noticed that your child is not progressing like other children you meet in the studio and workshops. You were getting tired of asking your child to come to practice. My soul practice is where I turn up to myself, to my soul. It is a version of my raft in life. It is a practice that doesn’t have a goal apart from doing it. Life at times is  complicated and challenging. These times require of us to find islands of sanity; pockets of refuge; coming home to ourselves. What are these pockets of sanity? When the future seems grim, is there a way we can  make the present moment more friendly? As a matter of fact,  the future is always a mystery. Even when we think we know what’s about to come. I create these pockets of sanity by: · Listening to music. · Reading poetry · Letting my fingers lead themselves on the piano · Listening to Indian chants ·  Watching my breath · Listening to my heart beat · Moving  s l o w l y ·Sitting in the place of awe  I don’t DO any of the above. I’m letting it be done. I smile to  the thought that say “later on …”and send them away to come later. I do it in a loving manner. Do we need to get old to allow this to happen in our lives? The Suzuki philosophy and method is a holistic way of treating every child as a unique human being. Every child is unique. Every human being is unique. This uniqueness is becoming hidden sometimes  when we grow up.   How would the world be If we treat everyone as a unique human being. From an early stage we can see what are the gifts and tendencies of every child. We could then, nurture them towards it. This is how we raise happy children. Happiness is living your purpose. In Suzuki way we nurture children to become happy human being and we do it through music. Music is the raft to develop a beautiful heart. Parents can learn to discover their children’s uniqueness through the Suzuki way. On  child’s time, adult’s time, each person’s unique time; this time that invites awe, creativity and imagination. We often say and hear: “Time is precious”. The question is what and how much we do to treat it this way. Do you allow time to wonder, time to respect your inner child Is distraction always bad? Pushing children to always go beyond their natural pace could shorten childhood and the magic it contains. Can you create space in your everyday life to experience awe? To breath magic?
