Over The Sound of Accra Podcast

In 2019, Adrian Daniels had a brainwave to launch a podcast platform to showcase Ghanaian excellence to the world. The internet is already crowded with content from Ghana: YouTube, Social Media pages, etc. However, after hosting 2x Networking Events during Christmas 2018 & 2019 in Accra for the Global African Diaspora, Adrian noticed a lack and desire for networking, whilst meeting many creatives and entrepreneurs from around the globe. In January 2020, The Sound of Accra Podcast was born. Powerful interviews with Top Founders, Entrepreneurs and Creatives from Ghanaian heritage or interest, leaving listeners with meaningful takeaways for life, business and career. New episodes weekly. Mobile Money Was Africa's Original Stablecoin - How M-Pesa Predicted Crypto by 20 Years

Watch the full episode here: https://youtu.be/qHdoyy_5Cxk [https://youtu.be/qHdoyy_5Cxk] In this snippet, Adrian sits down with the team behind PawaPay to unpack one of the most underrated stories in African fintech: how mobile money, starting with M-Pesa in 2007, quietly became the blueprint for everything the crypto world now calls "stablecoin." The core idea is when mobile penetration grew across Africa, people were already handing over shillings, kwacha and cedis to mobile network operators to buy airtime and data. That created a digital store of value, held in custody outside the traditional banking system, instantly transferable and natively digital. Sounds familiar? That's the exact pitch for stablecoin today. Key Topics * How M-Pesa turned mobile airtime infrastructure into Africa's first digital store of value * Why mobile money is "Africa's original stablecoin" held outside banks, instantly transferable more secure * How the continent was 20 years ahead of the global crypto and Web3 conversation * How payment aggregators like PawaPay connect mobile money ecosystems to local, Pan-African and international merchants * Why stablecoins are the natural next step: more speed, more security, lower cost and less friction * How PawaPay has used stablecoins in its settlement flow for years, before the trend caught on * The compliance and jurisdictional realities of building stablecoin infrastructure responsibly across Africa Special thanks to our Partners Send money to your loved ones. Why Ghana's Diaspora Sent $6.5 Billion Home in 2024 & Where That Money Is Really Going

Listen to this episode next: "From $50K to $120M: How an Indian Entrepreneur Unlocked Ghana’s Invisible Economy": https://open.spotify.com/episode/77R8TPtq28wEpGinpg9kDW?si=Kv4Ml72pQbCab70PtHqjhQ [https://open.spotify.com/episode/77R8TPtq28wEpGinpg9kDW?si=Kv4Ml72pQbCab70PtHqjhQ] In this episode, Adrian breaks down one of the most important and least talked about stories in Ghana's growth right now: the relationship between diaspora remittances and Ghana's real estate boom. In 2024, Ghana received close to $6.5 billion in remittances, almost four times the country's total foreign direct investment that same year. By 2025, that figure was reportedly approaching $7.8 billion. Ghana is now one of the largest remittance-receiving countries in sub-Saharan Africa, second only to Nigeria. But this episode isn't just about the numbers. It's about where that money is actually going, and why Key Topics: 1. Why diaspora money is increasingly flowing into land, homes, and property rather than everyday expenses 2. Why the United States is the single largest source of remittances into Ghana, and what that means for property demand 3. The neighbourhoods driving the boom: East Legon, East Legon Hills, Airport Residential Area, Airport Hills, Ridge, Tse Addo and Aburi 4. The growing ecosystem of agents, architects, project managers and interior designers built specifically to serve diaspora clients managing builds from abroad 5. The emotional pull behind the investment, legacy, generational wealth, cultural roots and "the motherland" 6. The lasting ripple effects of the Year of Return (2019) on relocations, property purchases and diaspora identity Special thanks to our Partners Send money to your loved ones. You should try Sendwave!
