28. ‘Voicemails are Podcasts for Old People’ - The Dadpod Boys Take Mach Fest (Machynlleth Comedy Festival Inside Scoop)

Which local comedians do you think need to give up? All this and more will be revealed (and salaciously bleeped) on this slanderous and explosive expose on the Machynlleth Comedy Festival! Oft dubbed the ‘best comedy festival in the world’ (usually to audiences currently attending said festival), Max and Joe recount their recent trip to see the cream of the comedy crop; swapping stories about the acts they loved and loathed - they also chat about the harsh realities of chalet life, how a man who looked like Jeremy Corbyn mistook Max for somebody’s dad, and the Dadpod boys slag off a lot of comedians (including local losers, circuit regulars, and huge TV names) - don’t skip this one! In more genteel moments they also discuss how volunteering at the festival works, offer their tips and tricks for navigating the ‘no horse town’ of Machynlleth itself (including what happened when a woman’s phone went off during a live recording), as well as debating whether live podcasts are a complete waste of time (and tease a future Dadpod: LIVE?). Joe also sets out a strong message to the Three mobile network to SORT their voicemail settings before finally asking the question: are voicemails podcasts for old people?.  About our Topic: Machynlleth Comedy Festival is a three-day comedy festival held annually in Machynlleth, Wales. Although the town is home to only around 2,000 residents, in 2024 the festival drew in around four times that number of visitors. The festival is aimed as a testing ground for comedians to experiment with new material in the spring before the more intense Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August. Got a dad story for us? 27. 'Cholera Found in the New City!' - The Dad Who KO'd a Cockerel

Would you suck bean juice through a red Henry Lloyd turtle-neck? In this episode, we welcome back Steffan Evans for the final instalment of the John Bach trilogy. This time, we discuss John's many hobbies, including looking out the window and brewing his own 10% beer, which people travelled from far and wide to taste. We talk about John's favourite sports: winding people up and drink driving. We hear tales from John's man-cave: a big shed with a bar inside, plus all the stuff that John has collected over the years: brass gas lamps, shotguns, and even a bayonet he found in the local village. Steff tells us about John's experiences with various animals, including the time he obliterated a rat with a shotgun, the time he knocked out a cockerel with a wooden plank, and their vicious pet dog called Tonto. Finally, Max tells the tale of a recent trip out with Alvin, Steff talks about the similarities and differences between his dad and himself, and we reminisce about the times Steff met both our dads. 26. 'I'll Saw That Bike Up' - The Dad Who Eats Raw Onions

Would you eat a sandwich from a corner shop? We're back again with the man whose two biggest idols growing up were Ian Rush and Mr T: Steffan Evans, to talk about his father, John Bach, the man who snacks on raw onions but has never tried pasta and sauce. In this episode, Steff tells us details about his relationship with John, like the fact that they were never a hugging family growing up, but that nowadays, they do hug, albeit after a bit of build up from a handshake. He also tells us how he keeps in dad touch, and the fact that his dad has 5 landlines but never seems to answer any of them. Plus, we learn about John's unique method of dealing with scam callers. We also explore John's eating habits: farting after eating crab legs, his love for choc ices and salt 'n' shake crisps, and his refusal to eat any beans other than heinz. Steffan reminisces about the first time he smelt egg, a man who ran a tuck shop from his transit van, the time his father raffled off Steff's car, and threatened to saw up his bike to stop him from riding it (Steffwas 30 at the time). Plus, he tells us how his obsession with the A-team led him to go shopping wearing a Mr T mask, and to pop all the tyres on his dad's car. Finally, Joe and Steff talk about the first time they met at a comedy gig attended by Rhod Gilbert, Steff shares the most inspirational life advice his dad ever gave him, Joe goes on a rant about politics, and Max tells the story of when his dad ordered some chocolate and received cat food instead. 25. 'Sleaze and Filth in a Comfortable Environment' - The Dad Who Stole a Tree

Is it okay to take stuff out of other people's skips? It's an exciting day for the pod as we welcome South Wales comedy royalty - thought of as a hard man of the Cardiff comedy scene (and as a bit of a soft lad back home): STEFFAN EVANS! In this episode, we discuss Steff's dad, John Evans, affectionately knows as JOHN BACH (little John), a short but girthy man who stands at 10 beer cans tall and weighs the same as a standard beer keg. John is known as the local hard man in a Pembrokeshire town exclusively populated by hard men, a master pintsman who loves a punch-up, a horseshoe-moustached terrier of a man, who has never shied away from hopping on a JCB in his life. We discuss John's various sources of income throughout his life, which include: driving massive lorries, home-brewing 10%apv ale, and stealing local trees. Steff also tells us about John's love for war films and Welsh country music. Steff reminisces about happy memories of his dad placing him into a skip to rummage through for any treasures, and driving lessons which consisted of giving his dad a lift to the pub (one of which led to a high-speed police chase). Things get a little bit blue as Steff discusses his dad's unorthodox take on the birds and the bees chat, the time he tried to watch a war film on video but it'd been taped over with a porno, and the times his dad hid his porn VHS tapes under Steff's mattress when he was six. Also in this episode, Steff tells us about the interesting experiences he had in Amsterdam and gives his top tips for pissing in the cinema. Plus, we all bond over tales of difficult gigs with antagonistic audiences in the Valleys and our shared hatred for misogyny. France also gets brought up a lot as Steff and Joe educate Max on the rather medieval public toilet system there, and Joe gets existential dread from the philosophical questions raised by the atomic deterioration of le grand kilogram. He also calls the French "filthy people" - which they are. ABOUT OUR GUEST: Steffan Evans from Eglwyswrw in Pembrokeshire, is a comedian with a unique insight into the world . 24. 'Ten Reps on the Naughty Bar' - Ranking All the Dads in Skins (Generation 2 & 3)

Who's the worst dad in Skins (2007-2013)? In this episode we finish our ranking of all the dads in skins, this time were tackling the rogues gallery of the emotionally stunted and maladjusted characters of Generation 2 & 3! We line up this shower of deadbeats from the absentee dads to the dads taking an active role in screwing up their kids by launching them headfirst into the manosphere. Listen and find out who will be crowned the best (or the least worst) dad for each generation based on their emotional education, how well they provide for their kids and how good a kid they raise in the end (spoilers: its pretty thin gruel after gen 1) Along the way we also discuss whether we'd like to have Super Hans as a dad, whether we would buy tickets for 9/11 The Musical, and how we missed the signs regarding the now disgraced presenter of UK's Next Teen Sex Bomb (we also sing "Ass to Ass"). Who's Your Daddy...Really? is the only podcast that asks the question "when did you last touch your dad?" Each week your hosts, Welsh comedians Joe Dehuai & Max Jones, discuss what makes their dads weird and their Pa's peculiar with a range of comedian guests, as well as exploring dad lore from your favourite TV & movies.
