Not all these stories about my life are good, not all bad, but each is glass shattering in its own way. The idea is to help people across all levels of society take a deep poetic dive into the mind of a young black boy. A look at the overwhelming obstacles that would prove to make me the man I am today. Many of these situations were traumatic and may be difficult to hear. My mind consists of priceless memories of trauma-filled moments. As a child, these memories stayed hidden behind learning disabilities and behavioral problems from an unforgiving environment that seemed to always be against my journey to greatness. I do not intend to glorify or understate all the major mistakes I made while growing up. The examples told here are some situations that were out of my hands and others I created myself. It is always easy to judge those who come out of similar situations. This book will illuminate how a young boy can be thrust into an environment that will make an animal out of anyone. The decisions you make will determine the type of animal. Most have no idea the hardships one child can withstand, so hold your judgment until you can see the picture in its entirety. Walking under the cold clouds of that playground filled with traps and temptations makes you aware of the person you must become. That is the person you need to be to survive. When you are forced to tangle with hunger pains and wrestle with the lasting memory of having a gun pointed to your head is when you know. Many stories of inner-city black youth are negative because of the traumatizing lessons learned in a lifetime. I learned lessons about life, love, trauma, and the importance of mental health. And through these unscrambled words, I have chosen to spell out my story for you. This book speaks to three critical audiences: 1. The educator believes in educating all who enter the school building. No matter how damaged or difficult they may come. 2. The young person who often feels forgotten and mistreated, who is struggling and begging silently for someone to notice that the problems they are having are real. And they just need an extra push to understand that they can create their own destiny. 3. Any adult in the position to mentor or help guide a young person who they notice struggling.
