Conversation with Forensic Scientist Tonya Woytek - What exactly is forensic science?

Tonya Woytek is a Forensic Scientist with the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, prior to her employment with BSO she was a Forensic Scientist with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.   She has a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Florida (Go Gators!) She has 25 years of experience in the field of Forensics where she specializes in Controlled Substance analysis (Drug Analysis).  To date in her career she has over 22,500 analyses and she has testified over 240 times.  She has been qualified and testified as an expert in the area of controlled substances identification in criminal and civil cases in both Federal and State courts all over Florida. She holds a certification in Drug analysis by the American Board of Criminalistics and is a member of the Southwestern Association of Forensic Scientists.  When not in the laboratory she spends time with her rescue dog Bailey or you can find her on the dance floor enjoying some country two-step or West Coast Swing!
