Day 5 - Read Genesis 9-10

God told Noah and his sons to multiply and fill the earth. Every living thing was given over to man to rule. God made a covenant with Noah and his offspring to never flood the earth again and destroy all living things. The reminder and sign of the covenant is the bow in the cloud (rainbow). Noah planted a vineyard and drank of the vine. He became drunk on wine and was discovered to be naked by his youngest son, Ham. He did not cover Noah. Instead, he told his brothers about his father, and they covered Noah. Noah was angered by Ham’s actions and cursed Ham’s descendants and blessed his other two sons, Shem and Japheth. Noah lived to be 950 years old. Noah’s sons multiplied the earth and their descendants established nations.

Day 4 - Read Genesis 7-8

Noah was six hundred years old when God told him to enter the ark and the flood began. Rain fell on the earth for forty days and forty nights, but Noah and his family were safe. The waters remained on the earth for 150 days. God caused the waters to subside. Noah sent a dove from the ark until she did not return, then Noah knew the earth was dry. God told Noah to leave the ark and multiply the earth. Noah built an altar to God and offered burnt offerings with a pleasant aroma to God. God would never curse the ground because of man or strike every living creature down again.

Day 3 - Read Genesis 5-6

Chapter five documents the lineage of Adam to Noah and his three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. God created man in His likeness. Mankind multiplied and became corrupt. God reduced man’s lifespan on earth. Men of God began to lust after the daughters of worldly men. Men who were giants and were known from years past were living in these days. The thoughts of men’s hearts were evil. God chose to end all flesh by flooding the earth. God provided an escape to a righteous man named Noah, his wife, his sons, his sons’ wives, and two of every sort of living flesh (one male and one female). God ordered Noah to build an ark to be used to escape the flood. Noah did as God commanded.

Day 2 - Read Genesis 3-4

The serpent enticed Eve to sin by questioning God’s command concerning the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Eve chose to break God’s command and ate of the tree. Adam also agreed to sin against God. Their eyes were opened, and they were aware of their sin and nakedness. God pronounced punishment against the serpent, the man, and the woman. God removed the man and woman from the garden. Cain and Abel, sons of Adam and Eve, brought offerings to the Lord. God was pleased with Abel’s offering, but not with Cain’s. Cain was jealous of Abel, killed him, and was punished. God condemned Cain to be a wanderer on the earth. Cain had many descendants. and God blessed Adam and Eve with a son named Seth.

Day 1 - Read Genesis 1-2

The first five books of the Old Testament are called the Pentateuch (five books), the Torah (instruction), or the Books of The Law. The first book is Genesis which means beginning. Genesis tells the story of creation. God existed in the beginning, set time in motion, and created the world and everything in it. God rested on the seventh day and made it holy. He created man in His own image, male and female, and provided his plan for them to become one. God breathed life into man and put him in a garden in Eden. He told the man and woman to multiply the earth. Man was given rule over all living creatures of the earth and given fruit of the tree for food. But man was commanded not to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
