Black Box Theory Podcast
Follow the money far enough and it always leads somewhere uncomfortable. This week we follow it — from who's actually paying for the AI boom, to who gets erased when the world throws a party. We open in our lane: the money behind the machines. Everyone talks about AI models, but almost nobody talks about how the compute gets paid for — the debt markets, the GPU-backed loans, the borrowing that's quietly propping up the whole boom. Then we get into the rise of Chinese AI models that are landing at a fraction of the cost of the leading Western ones, and what that price gap means for who ends up controlling this technology. From there we go global. The World Cup should be pure joy, but it's complicated — especially for Black American fans. We get into the erasure of Black populations in a country like Argentina, and the strange position of cheering for Black players on the English national team. That opens up a bigger conversation about colonization and the long shadow it still casts over African countries, and the corruption in politics that keeps a lot of those wounds open. Then to the hardwood: we get into the mistreatment of Jaylen Brown in the NBA and what it says about how even the best get handled, plus what we're watching for in the upcoming season. And we close the way we mean it — with gratitude. This podcast has grown in ways we didn't expect, and none of it happens without you.
