Wealthy people have always found ways to make sure you know it. In 17th century England, one popular method was inviting your dinner guests outside to watch as a cow — walked up from your farm specifically for the occasion — was milked directly into a bowl of spiced wine. The warmth of the fresh milk, the force of the stream, and the acidity of the wine combined to produce a frothy, layered dessert that was equal parts delicious and spectacle. It was called syllabub. And yes, it tasted as good as it sounds strange.
