Cults and Secret Societies
Each July, the private Bohemian Club gathers at Bohemian Grove, a secluded redwood retreat near Monte Rio, California. Founded in San Francisco in eighteen seventy-two by journalists, artists, actors, and musicians, the club later became associated with presidents, cabinet officials, military leaders, financiers, media figures, corporate executives, university heads, and other prominent men. Its most famous event is the Cremation of Care, a theatrical ceremony staged before a large owl shrine, where a human-shaped effigy representing Care, often called Dull Care, is symbolically destroyed. The club describes the ceremony as pageantry marking a temporary release from professional burdens, while critics and conspiracy theorists interpret the imagery as evidence of hidden allegiance or ritualized elite power. This episode separates documented ritual, witness accounts, official materials, unauthorized footage, and unsupported claims, while asking a harder question: what kind of influence can form when powerful people meet privately, hear Lakeside Talks, build trust, and exchange access beyond public view? This podcast uses artificial intelligence in its research, writing, production, and narration. Episodes are editorially reviewed before publication. #CultsAndSecretSocieties #EliteSocietiesAndSecretivePoliticalRetreats #BohemianGrove #BohemianClub #CremationOfCare
