Cultures and Graves podcast
Facing racial discrimination and distrust, American Indians and African Americans were not allowed to fight in Civil War battles until the numbers of white soldiers killed or injured was large enough to start recruiting minorities. Many minorities fought bravely, earning the respect of the white soldiers. But when minorities were killed in battle, they faced discrimination again. This podcast episode explores some Civil War era cemeteries for minority soldiers that were almost lost to indifference, and the national monuments that were only recently created.
