Daily Boost Podcast Navigating Corporate BS July 30, 2026 | Episode 5509 Host: Scott Smith Episode Description I just spent a couple of hours coaching professionals who are climbing the corporate ladder, and I brought it all straight to the mic. If you've ever looked at the person above you and wondered how somebody that clueless got where they are, this one's for you. You're not crazy. They probably don't know what they're talking about. And once you accept that, everything changes — because the power shifts to you. If you're bumping your head against the ceiling and tired of waiting in line, press play today. Let's get you moving. Featured Story A few years back, my wife landed a big job with the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa — a five-day shoot where she played a cancer patient. Before the audition, she told me it didn't matter what she did because they already knew what they were looking for. I said they absolutely don't. They know they want somebody who looks like a cancer patient. That's it. They're waiting for the right person to walk in the door. As a former producer, I told her to wear that headscarf I love. She didn't wear it — and she still got the job. They had no idea who they wanted. Neither does your boss. Important Points * The person above you probably doesn't know what they're talking about, and accepting that is where your power begins. * Everybody in corporate America has an expiration date, so stop waiting in line and start casting your own vision now. * When they ask you to define the leadership role yourself, that's your opening to answer what nobody else can answer. Memorable Quotes * You're the person that drives their success. They need you to succeed, and yet they don't want you to take their job. * I accept the fact they're stupid, and I say that in the most respectful, grateful way. From that point, I have power. * If you're going to step up, step up. Stop hiding. You've got to bring out the good renegade and have some real impact. Scott's Three-Step Approach 1. Accept that the person above you doesn't have the answers, because that acceptance frees you to stop waiting in line. 2. Then cast the vision yourself by building a presentation that shows how you'd lead, as if the job is already yours. 3. Now make it collaborative, walk them through how you see it, and ask what they think, so you're a peer, not a threat.
