Now on YouTube! Gift of Need podcast

We are celebrating the release of fifty podcasts this month by starting a Gift of Need YouTube Channel. Each week for the next 5 weeks we will be releasing 10 of the previous 50 podcast episodes starting with the two-part introduction. The premise for the podcast comes from a book I’m writing. The Gift of Need flips the conventional narrative about need and redefines it as a powerful force for personal and communal growth, connection, and transformation. The Gift of Need podcast focuses on the many areas of our lives where we have needs and explains how every one of those areas can become an opportunity and gift rather than a burden. For example, if we are lonely we need community. Our needs can be met while at the same time that community benefits from being allowed to share their lives with us. Or, if we have a broken heart, we need solace. We can find that in the many songs that speak to broken hearts because the songwriter has also experienced those feelings – and they are fulfilled when they share their gift in bringing solace to others. If we are experiencing suffering or loss or abuse, we can seek others who have passed that way before and who are looking for the opportunity to help others work through their difficult circumstances either in person or through books or teaching. For a writer, crafting a book fills a need to use ideas and words to share adventures, political concerns, spiritual insights etc. When readers choose a book to fill a particular need in their life, they benefit from the gift the author created. For an artist who creates in their medium, their need for fulfillment comes when others can enjoy their art and have their need for beauty or curiosity or wonder fulfilled. For someone in the medical professions, their desire to help others fulfills them best when the person in need of help seeks their services and receives the treatment they need. When we need to get somewhere, we need a car or public transportation. The companies with engineers and workers fill our need while they fill the need for gainful employment. As you can see, the list is endless for opportunities and gifts to fulfill needs for both situations: for the person experiencing a need and for the person who is gifted in a certain area and needs to use it in order to be fulfilled. My hope is that you will enjoy listening to the interesting and informative discussions with my guests and that you will begin to think about the needs and gifts in your own life with a new perspective.
