Beskrivelse

I keep seeing influencer after influencer talking about coffee and cortisol or some version of this, and a few of the claims bugged me, so I decided to actually look into the research myself and discuss on here. Here is the short version: your cortisol is supposed to rise in the morning, that part is completely normal, and while caffeine does add a little to that rise, your body adapts a lot more than people are giving it credit for. I also get into that popular rule about waiting 90 minutes before your first cup, and talk about why this whole conversation looks a little different once you are in perimenopause or menopause. By the end of the episode, you will have some real, research backed ways to think about your coffee habit without feeling like you need to panic over it.  Let's talk. Welcome to Her Season of Strength, where women over 40 reclaim their bodies, their energy, and their voices, without apologies. I'm Kim Duffy, registered dietitian, personal trainer, mom, and your biggest hype woman when it comes to aging like you mean it. This show isn't about chasing skinny or counting wrinkles. It's about building real strength: physical, emotional, and hormonal. Each week, I'll share straight talking nutrition tips, sustainable fitness strategies, and conversations that help you feel powerful in your skin once again. Menopause is not an ending, it is only the beginning. This is your season of strength. What I Cover in This Episode: * Why your cortisol is supposed to spike every single morning, and why that is actually a good thing, not a red flag * The real research behind caffeine and cortisol, including the one nuance almost every influencer conveniently leaves out * Whether the viral "wait 90 minutes before coffee" rule actually holds up once you look at the science behind it * Why your daily coffee habit might not be spiking your cortisol the way you have been led to believe * The exact caffeine dose researchers use in cortisol studies, and how it stacks up against your actual morning cup * Why habitual coffee drinkers respond differently to stress than occasional drinkers, and why that matters * How perimenopause and menopause quietly change the way your body handles both caffeine and stress * The one simple pairing research shows can take the edge off caffeine jitters and blunt that cortisol spike * Small, doable habits that support your stress response without asking you to give up your coffee * Click here to get on the priority list for my brand new SUSTAIN 12 week program first [https://www.strengthinnutrition.com/sustain-priority-list], including early access, the lowest price of the round, and bonuses you will not find anywhere else Send me a text [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2519883/fan_mail/new] Links & resources for this episode: Fit After 50+ Program [https://www.strengthinnutrition.com/fit-after-50]: 8-Week Nutrition Coaching & Strength Program for menopausal women.  Join the interest list today for the best discounts, bonuses and updates about the next program coming Fall of 2026! HSOS #50: How Less Information Gets You Better Results

Ever notice how the health and wellness world tries to convince you that more is always better? More rules, more trackers, more information crammed into your already overflowing brain? Yeah, I used to be part of that problem. In this episode I get real about how I used to coach women (spoiler: it involved handing over a small novel of information in session one) and why that approach was quietly setting my clients up to feel like failures. I'm breaking down why one simple habit done consistently will always beat five habits done occasionally, why this matters even more in perimenopause and menopause, and why I'm bringing my SUSTAIN nutrition coaching program back this September with a whole new look. Twelve weeks, one focus, zero fluff. Grab your coffee and let's talk about why less really is more. Let's talk. Welcome to Her Season of Strength, where women over 40 reclaim their bodies, their energy, and their voices, without apologies. What I Cover in This Episode: * Why I used to hand every new client a mountain of information (and thought I was helping) * The real reason a binder full of macros, workouts, and journaling prompts backfires by day three * What decision fatigue actually does to your brain and your self esteem * The one habit rule that beats five habits every single time * Why your bandwidth in perimenopause and menopause changes the whole game plan * The truth about simple: it is not the lesser plan, it is the plan * Why nutrition is the one area I tell every midlife woman to focus on first * The trap of trying to fix your eating, workouts, and stress all in the same month * Why I brought SUSTAIN back after stepping away, and what is different this time.  Join the SUSTAIN no obligation Priority List here.  [https://www.strengthinnutrition.com/sustain-priority-list. ] * What twelve weeks of focused nutrition coaching can actually do for your energy, sleep, and mood Send me a text [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2519883/fan_mail/new] Links & resources for this episode: Fit After 50+ Program [https://www.strengthinnutrition.com/fit-after-50]: 8-Week Nutrition Coaching & Strength Program for menopausal women.  Join the interest list today for the best discounts, bonuses and updates about the next program coming Fall of 2026! episode HSOS #49: Stop Trying to Do It All: Why Breakfast Is Your Best First Move cover

HSOS #49: Stop Trying to Do It All: Why Breakfast Is Your Best First Move

Have you ever decided that Monday was the day you were going to change everything, all at once, and then by Wednesday you were right back where you started, feeling worse than before because now there's guilt on top of it? Yeah. Me too. And I want you to know that is not a willpower problem. That is a habit science problem, and today we're going to talk about why. In this episode I'm breaking down why trying to do everything at once is actually working against your brain, and what to do instead. We're starting small, and I mean really small, because the best first habit you can build is one you probably haven't thought much about: breakfast. We're talking about what most women are actually eating in the morning and why it's putting them on a blood sugar rollercoaster before the day even starts, what to eat instead, and I'm even giving you a look at how the rest of the world does breakfast because spoiler: they're doing something we're not. Practical ideas, real talk, and a simple seven day challenge to get you started. Menopause is not an ending, it is only the beginning. This is your season of strength. What I Cover in This Episode: * Why the "change everything at once" approach always backfires and what your brain is actually doing when it shuts down * The one small habit shift that creates a ripple effect through your entire day * Why breakfast is the perfect first domino and the easiest place to start building real momentum * The surprising reason skipping breakfast is NOT saving you calories and what it's costing you instead * What the grab-and-go trap looks like and why cold cereal and pastries are setting you up for a rough morning * The blood sugar rollercoaster most women don't realize they're riding every single day * Why protein and fiber are the two things your breakfast actually needs and how much to aim for * The eye-opening look at how the rest of the world eats breakfast (and why it's way better than ours) * A roundup of high protein, high fiber breakfast ideas that are fast, real, and actually satisfying * A simple seven day challenge to help you build one solid habit and finally feel the difference * Get a new high protein recipe delivered to your inbox every Thursday by joining my subscriber list at: https://www.strengthinnutrition.com/high-protein-recipes [https://www.strengthinnutrition.com/high-protein-recipes] Send me a text [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2519883/fan_mail/new] Links & resources for this episode: Fit After 50+ Program [https://www.strengthinnutrition.com/fit-after-50]: 8-Week Nutrition Coaching & Strength Program for menopausal women.  Join the interest list today for the best discounts, bonuses and updates about the next program coming Fall of 2026! episode HSOS #48: Your Core Isn't What You Think It Is cover

HSOS #48: Your Core Isn't What You Think It Is

Let's settle this once and for all, your core is not just a six pack hiding under stubborn belly fat. It's basically Grand Central Station for everything you do, from picking up your grandkid to surviving an overly aggressive sneeze. In this episode, I introduce you to the real MVPs of your midsection, including a deep stabilizing muscle that works like a built in corset and one very famous floor you've probably been hearing a lot about lately. I explain why your back tweaks when you reach for something on the floor, busts the sucking in and belly button to spine myth wide open, and walks you step by step through a breath based bracing technique you can do anywhere, no holding your stomach in required. Stick around to the end, because I’ve got a free five move guide waiting for you called Core Confidence, basically a cheat code for a stronger, steadier midsection. Let's talk.  Welcome to Her Season of Strength, where women over 40 reclaim their bodies, their energy, and their voices, without apologies. Menopause is not an ending, it is only the beginning. This is your season of strength. What I Cover in This Episode: * Why your core has almost nothing to do with how your stomach actually looks * The six body parts that make up your real "core system" (one of them might surprise you) * The hidden corset muscle you've probably never heard of, and why it matters more than your six pack * Why your spine should never be the star of the show during a workout * The real reason you "threw your back out" doing something totally ordinary * Why crunches and sit ups are not the core fix you've been promised * What your core is actually designed to do (hint: it's not to move) * The everyday exercises quietly training your core better than a thousand crunches ever could * A simple breathing trick to brace your core for real, no sucking in or belly button to spine required * Click here for the free "Core Confidence" guide to take this even further [https://www.strengthinnutrition.com/free-core-workout]   Send me a text [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2519883/fan_mail/new] Links & resources for this episode: Fit After 50+ Program [https://www.strengthinnutrition.com/fit-after-50]: 8-Week Nutrition Coaching & Strength Program for menopausal women.  Join the interest list today for the best discounts, bonuses and updates about the next program coming Fall of 2026! HSOS #47: Why "Earning" Your Cheat Meal Is Sabotaging Your Progress

Raise your hand if you've ever called pizza, cocktails, and ice cream a "cheat day" and then felt like a total food criminal by Monday morning. Yeah, me too, more times than I would like to admit. In this episode I am spilling on why the whole cheat meal mindset sets you up to fail before you even take a bite, plus the surprising reason one of my clients kept gaining weight even though she was doing everything "right." We are ditching the good food, bad food drama for good and replacing it with something that actually works long term, a real system instead of a resolution that fizzles out by Thursday. And since today is the very last day to grab my brand new Easy Prep Blueprint for over sixty five percent off, stick around, because I am telling you exactly why this might be the missing piece for so many of you. Let's talk. Welcome to Her Season of Strength, where women over 40 reclaim their bodies, their energy, and their voices, without apologies. What I Cover in This Episode: * Why calling food a "cheat meal" might be the very thing keeping you stuck * The sneaky reason your Monday morning scale number isn't telling you the truth * My own go to cheat day lineup and how it kept backfiring on me every week * The real client story of a woman who ate "perfectly" but the scale kept creeping up anyway * Why there is no such thing as a bad food, and what to focus on instead * The simple plate trick that finally explained her 9pm hunger struggles * What is really happening at your 5pm kitchen meltdown (hint: it is not a willpower problem) * The six letter framework I use with every client to kill decision fatigue for good * Why "you don't need a diet, you need a system" might change how you think about food forever * The last day details on my Easy Prep Blueprint and the bonus that disappears tonight at midnight: Click here to learn more and to register [https://www.strengthinnutrition.com/the-easy-prep-blueprint-offer] Send me a text [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2519883/fan_mail/new] Links & resources for this episode: Fit After 50+ Program [https://www.strengthinnutrition.com/fit-after-50]: 8-Week Nutrition Coaching & Strength Program for menopausal women.  Join the interest list today for the best discounts, bonuses and updates about the next program coming Fall of 2026!
