I Am Broken: I Need God's Hope

While we and our world are broken because of sin, we can have hope and trust that something good will happen. Preschoolers and kids will learn this week that they need God’s hope. As we teach 1 Kings 17:8-16, kids will see how God provided for the prophet Elijah. In our Bible story, there was a famine and Elijah needed food. He trusted God to take care of him. Incredibly, God worked through a widow to provide food for Elijah in a miraculous way. We will teach preschoolers and kids that they can have hope, even in our broken world filled with challenging situations. We have an opportunity to teach kids that no matter what happens, God loves them, cares for them, and provides for them—like He did for Elijah. I Am Broken: I Need God's Help/I Need God's Compassion

This week we will teach preschoolers and kids that they need God’s compassion. Our Bible story is found in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Jesus taught a crowd who was eager to learn, but also very hungry! Jesus had compassion on the crowd, meaning He saw their need and acted to care and help. Jesus knew the people not only needed His teaching but also actual food, so He miraculously multiplied five loaves of bread and two fish. The whole crowd ate and were satisfied! Kids will learn that we need God’s compassion, too, and He gives it to us. I Am Broken: I Need God to Forgive Me/I Need God's Forgiveness

An important fact we get to teach this week is that we all need God’s forgiveness. In John 4:1-42, Jesus met a Samaritan woman at a well in the middle of the day. Jews and Samaritans did not get along. The fact that this Samaritan woman was at the well in middle of the day meant she had also been rejected by her community. But Jesus did not reject her. Instead, He offered her “living water.” This living water was a new relationship with God and forgiveness for the wrong things she had done in her life. We all need God’s forgiveness, no matter who we are or what we have done. God knows everything about us, yet He loves us and wants to forgive us. Preschoolers and kids will learn that Jesus came to offer us living water—eternal life and forgiveness—because God desires to have a relationship with us. I Am Broken: I Need God Every Day

We get to teach preschoolers and kids that they need God every day. This week’s Bible story is an overview from Exodus 13–40. God cared for His people, the Israelites, including leading them through the desert with a cloud by day and a fire by night. Even though they were not perfect and made wrong choices, God showed He was always with them. God promised to be with them and provide what they needed when they needed it. We get to teach preschoolers and kids that we need God and His presence in our lives, just like the Israelites needed Him. We are broken because of our sin, but God cares for us every day.
