In Other Words
Republicans speak constantly in the language of freedom, law and order, religious liberty, free speech, parental rights, and patriotism. This episode asks why those principles seem to change meaning depending on who is claiming them. This episode trace how American patriotism often becomes conditional: quiet Black protest is treated as a lack of respect for the country, while right-wing anger and even political violence are softened into grievance, frustration, or reverence. We move through the founding contradiction, slavery, Reconstruction, the New Deal, the GI Bill, abortion, trans rights, guns, welfare, immigration, policing, public education, and criminal justice to show a deeper pattern beneath the hypocrisy. Who gets context? Who gets innocence? Who gets protection? Who gets called a patriot? And who has to keep proving they belong?
