Oil prices have surged after Iran-backed Houthi rebels attacked two Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea, bringing another critical shipping route into the conflict and raising fresh concerns about global energy supplies. Iran says it will continue striking targets across the Middle East for as long as the United States attacks the Islamic Republic, while the Houthis insist they will maintain their blockade of Saudi-linked shipping. Regional diplomats are warning that hopes of de-escalation are fading fast. Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio says the price Iran pays for escalating the conflict will increase every night until the regime “comes to its senses.” Speaking at the ASEAN Regional Forum, Rubio claimed Tehran is once again seeking a deal with Washington but warned the Trump administration no longer trusts Iran to honour any agreement after repeated violations. Thousands of Jewish worshippers have ascended the Temple Mount on Tisha B’Av, with more than a dozen people detained for praying at the site despite longstanding restrictions under the status quo governing the holy site. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he will seek to form a broad national unity government after Israel’s October election, using his annual Tisha B’Av message to call for unity after years of war and political division. Hamas’s new leader, Khalil al-Hayya, has vowed to follow the path of Yahya Sinwar and Mohammed Deif, rejecting political concessions, demanding a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and pledging to continue the terrorist group’s fight against Israel. And Israel’s Diaspora Affairs Minister, Amichai Chikli, is calling for the closure of Turkey’s consulate in Jerusalem after a new report accused Ankara of using cultural, political and charitable networks to expand its influence in the city while supporting Hamas. Today’s guest is Doron Feldman, an America in the World Consortium Fellow at the Clements Center for National Security at the University of Texas. He explains why the growing relationship between Israel and Taiwan matters, how it has strengthened since October 7, and whether closer ties with Taipei risk provoking Beijing. _____________________________________________________________________________________ Sign up to receive Israel in 10 daily: https://izs.activetrail.biz/Israel-in-10-Sign-Up [https://izs.activetrail.biz/Israel-in-10-Sign-Up] Sponsorship inquiries: MisgavDailyBrief@gmail.com
