Grief: Part Two

This is the long awaited part two to our previous grief episode. In this episode, we talk a bit more about a part of our infertility story and the miscarriage we had not long after Manu’s mother passing away, the mental health of Hannah resulting from her grief journey and just exploring a time in our lives that was particularly dark.

Grief: Part One

Over the last few years we have had our fair share of loss and grief has been a major part of our lives. Through these experiences, we have learnt a lot about grief and how it affects us, those around us, our relationship(s) and our perspective. Learning to Communicate: Did We?

Learning to communicate is essential in any relationship. We share some stories that shed light on where we had a breakdown in communication and how we got through those barriers and learnt better ways to talk things out. There is always room for improvement, and we certainly have a ways to go - but in comparison to where we were, and where we are now - it's 10x better!

Marriage: Far from a Fairytale

TRIGGER WARNING: Discusses domestic abuse, suicidal thoughts, divorce When we got married, it was anything but a fairytale and nowhere near a happy ending. Soon after saying "I Do", we were met with some pretty heavy relationship changes, trauma projection, domestic abuse and just not anything like what we pictured marriage would be like. Join us for this episode where we share our experience of being in a bad relationship, how we felt, working through it, and the lasting effects of what abuse can do. There really is no nice way, no politically correct way, and no filtered way to talk about a personal experience such as this, but in a world where everything is filtered, being unfiltered is needed. Being bombarded with "perfect" relationships on social media, in media in general, creates room for comparison, alienation and just not nice thoughts. Seeing that others struggle and have their own imperfect relationships can make you feel less alone, more normal and just overall in a better headspace - at least it did for me. While I don't compare our "pain" or wish others to go through any type - seeing that another relationship also have bumps, makes me feel more connected, more human and less isolated in our problems. This is a heavy topic, we have to acknowledge that, but in the same token, it is very common sadly, and while we did get a positive ending, not everyone does. If you or anyone you know is in an abusive relationship, please seek help. Please speak up, please be safe and please know that you do not deserve to be treated any less than amazing. We worked hard to get where we are now. We still feel the lingering effects of abuse, but we have collectively put in the work and now our relationship truly has come to the "honeymoon" phase. It wasn't easy - but we did it.

Our Engagement: When Family Fights

Trigger Warning: talks of suicide is mentioned. Getting engaged was not the fun, magical time we thought it would be. Planning our wedding and deciding what we wanted for that day caused so much drama with our parents we almost gave up. Our intentions and desires were pure, but culture sadly got in the way.
